I've built all of my cages out of pine and there have been no problems with any of them rotting. I used Minwax stain and several coats of polyurethane to seal the wood. It takes stain a month to cure, so after at least a month the cages were fine for my chams (and my allergies). :D
Wow you guys buy very pricey things lol. $150 for a Jackson's?? I just paid $150 for a pair of sailfins.
Every Jacksons chameleon I've owned or ever seen has been small and does not need a giant cage.
Here's what I would have spent on a new animal had I not already...
I've come out of hibernation to tell you that I used water-based polyurethane on the branches in my cham cages. 3 years later, they are still intact and not moldy or rotten and my Mist King goes off 4 times a day pretty much soaking them.
I always thought it has more to do with the sudden movement of this weird object (the phone or camera) coming towards them. If I slowly move my phone towards my chams, they don't react. If I move suddenly or get too close too fast, they puff a little but it's the same reaction if I do that...
My female panther Peachy bit me in the nose when she was little rofl. It didn't hurt. She is much calmer now thankfully. Before my female veiled Jasmine passed away, I was trying to take her picture with my phone and she bit my phone lol. She was so nasty and I'll always have the bite marks...
90-95 degrees is kind of high for a 4 month old. I don't even keep my adult male panther's basking spot that high. I would raise your temps a few degrees but definitely not 95, you'll cook him. Add carrots to your gutload in case he has a vitamin a deficiency. That may be why he's closing...
I think it's awesome that this kid came online to find help for his chameleon.
Good luck Colton, I hope we can help in time! Do you have any pictures of your chameleon and cage that you could post?
It took me 6 months to get mine to breed in a bin with a heat pad. An escapee isn't going to breed in your house. Set yours up in a rubbermaid bin with a strip of tape around the top that they can't climb up.
I've been using spring water in my mist king and drippers and they have not clogged. I've heard people say distilled is fine to drink and others who say it is unhealthy. Since there's no question that spring water is fine to drink, I am not going to risk it.
See I'm the exact opposite. I think crickets are the most disgusting creepy thing that exists and I have been keeping reptiles for 15+ years. I am not a fan of regular household roaches at all but dubias are so different. I can actually touch them without being completely grossed out and I...
Do you have a Lowes? I think Lowes cuts tile and plexi-glass, not Home Depot.
I use aquarium backgrounds for the bottoms of my cages on top of chicken wire. With a couple of holes cut in them and something underneath to catch the water, they clean up really easily. I've only had to replace...
