I have 3 baby panthers. One little girl from Zanzibar at Flchams, her name is Neon. Then theres Xenon, a male blue bar from LLL. And in early October Argon, a Simon the Red son arrives from Dez at Chamelot chams. I live in sw florida (tampa), and currently have Xenon and Neon out on my lanai full time. At whhat night time temps should i bring them in permenatly? I was thinking once it dips below 70 id leave their basking red bulbs until it hits 65, then bring them in. Any other suggestions? My apartment stays pretty cool (70s) in the winter as i cool down my ball pythons for breeding.
Also, would anyone on here who breeds dubias be willing to set me up with a breeding colony (maybe 5;15 males to female breeders).. everytime i try and buy them online it says they cant ship dubias out to Florida! Ughhh.

Thanks so much!

Welcome out from lurking! I think you are on the right track keeping them outside until it hits 70, but I wouldn't have a red basking bulb on them at night (if I'm reading what you posted correctly). You don't want any type of light on chams at night, just pure darkness.

As for your question about dubias - they are illegal here in FL, which is why you can't get them shipped to you. Instead you can try discoids, they are very similar, and are fairly available though the same sponsors who sell dubias.

Thanks, so far ive been turning their basking lights OFF at night. Only light they get at night is from the building next to me and its their parking lot light. Its kindof like the moon. I cant do anything about that one short of pulling a corner of my lanai screen back and shooting it out with my sig .9mm! But that might disturb my neighbors.

They tend to sleep on the apartment side, so the light doesnt make it through the 2 ficus in their cages. Im sure my 150 feeder rats keep them up more than the lights!

Thanks again,
Jill

Hi and welcome! Your chams can safely stay outside overnight into the mid-50's. Also, you can't ship dubias into Florida. Find someone local or order discoids. No red light at night as this can disrupt their sleep.

If you click up at the top under view our sponsors and then click on chameleon food (or something like that), you can see a list of businesses who sell discoids. It's kinda frowned on on the forums to list specific businesses, because it could very easily deteriorate into a discussion of who is better that who... :D
