baby cage/ adult cage questions

Hi there,
We're just 2 days into our chameleon adventure. Lots of initial questions (and lots of answers already for most of them all over this forum... it's really great here) so pardon us if we seem to be all over these boards for the next little while. we'll try not to flood the place out with stupid questions.

So, male baby veiled, 7-8 weeks old. He's in a nice enclosure for now. glass back, half glass front (for the sliding doors), the rest mesh/punched vented panels.
Size is 24x16x16.

We are having a cabinetmaker friend make us a goodlooking custom enclosure when the little gaffer is big and ready for his adult home... tricked out and sized appropriately to last him for life.
we plan on 48x24x24 as that seems to be the benchmark around here.

Two questions:

1) Is his current cage size allright? He seems fairly unstressed even after his recent move.
2) WHEN does he need to be moved from his current home to the full-sized enclosure that will be his permanent home?

Thanks for your help

The size of his current home is fine till he turns 6 months old (give or take a month) .... that would be another benchmark;)
Some move into larger enclosures much sooner and some are okay in a smaller enclosure for a longer period.
The "grow up" enclosures I use are 18" wide 12" deep and 20" high.
