I am not good with panthers as i have mainly dealt with veileds.

what is it that makes you guys judge a certain way..

is there something im lookin for in particular?

I kinda have the same questions. I am horrible at guessing panther locales. Can you tell certain types by their heads etc? I know mainly nosy be is blue and ankarmys are pink :p thats about it

My english is not that great, so its hard for my to explain.
overall, ambanjas has this green/tourquise base colour with either red or blue bars. The closer to ankify you come, the more red the bars will become and the base colours when stressed, is very yellow/orange with bright red bars.
Ambanjas also turns "yellow" when stressed, but it seems like they turn a bit less yellow and red.
the eyes are either red or has red stripes. Many ambanjas has a yellow lip, but not all.
Some people talks about all red pardalis and call them red ambanjas, but you will find no red pardalis in ambanja, only animals with either red og blue bars.
Why not call the ones with blur bars, blue ambanja and the ones with red, red ambanja.

49km north from Ambanja, you will find a small locale that looks much like the typical ambanja, but it in diffrence from the ambanja, it does not has red colours on the head, but yellow and dark shades. This is called tourquise blue or blue diamond. They dont collect it any more, as its really hard to come to the place and people dont want to pay more money to get a animal that looks much like the ambanja. few people have it, but mix it with the ambanja, as they belive its just a variation from ambanja. The base colour is tourquise or grey and the bars are blue/tourquise but can turn all red.
hope this helps and sorry for my bad english.

Here's a link that describes the different locales:

It's like everything else, the more you try at it, the better you become. I always like playing the guessing game. If you want to see the more rare locales try visiting the european breeders' websites. It's rare that they're going to be in english though, so unless you know french or german, just look at the pictures. I personally love this site:
www.pardalis.be
He has some beautiful locales I've never seen offered here. It's in french but he does have an english option that rarely works. It's good thing I took 4 years of french =).
