Eating dirt?

Hello everyone, today I got my first panther chameleon from @Camiezone and I was checking on him and I saw he was next to his pothos and he took a small mouthful of dirt and he seemed to like it and did it again.

I don’t know if this is ok or not what should I do?

Does the dirt contain little white pellets/bits? Fertilizer? Could it cause impaction?

Usually it’s recommended that soils be covered with rocks that are definitely too big for a chameleon to ingest.

It’s thought that they do that because they’re missing something in their diary.

Hey! I just wanna say that my noodle has also been known to eat dirt now and then…along with anything else he can get in his mouth 😅 the rocks should stop him, just make sure they are large enough that he can’t eat them and that they aren’t sharp so he can’t scratch himself. Just monitor him to make sure he is still pooping since he did in fact eat some.
