anyone else have a snapping turtle? i have a common one, a dark brown color. i've had it for 7 years and don't know its sex. i'd post a pic, but it's hibernating right now. it did wake up on new years eve, either because of how warm the apartment got when my wife cooked a turkey, or maybe it just smelled the turkey. i fed it a bunch of turkey and is sleeping again :) it's a great pet and is only scary when its hungry. so i let it get REAL fat. it'll be skinny in march when it wakes up and becomes scary until it fattens up again. i feed it turtle pellets, fish, brine shrimp cubes, crawfish, chicken, turkey, baby ducks (j/k)

I have a small florida snapper, its a neat little creature and a very easy pet turtle. I hope to have mine for at least 7 years also.

I used to have one but my dad took it to his classroom to put in his 80G fishtank and someone either stole it or it got out :(

i really want another one though, they are so fraeking cool

they are really good at escaping because they're so friggin strong. mine used to escape until a few years back, when i couldn't find it for a few hours. it was in the first place i looked, but looked over it because its head and front leg were stuck in a goldfish net ): it never escaped again. can i ask you guys about the setups you use/used? i got a strong filter with a little aquarium salt in the water. i take out most of the water at least once every two weeks and make sure to clean out fish heads, crawfish claws, etc. it has its cave it spends most of its time in that i made out of bricks. before it wakes up i'm gonna have to cement them together, because my snapper can knock the bricks around.
