normal spot bulbs or reptile specific bulbs?

I’m getting a little fed up of buying these reptile specific basking and spot lamps that only last a few months, yet cost the same as about 8 normal spot bulbs. I’ve got a light tube for UVA/B, is there actually any need for me to get a certain bulb, or could I use a normal spot bulb? what’s so special about these reptile type spot bulbs, apart from the extortionate price?

Normal household incandescent bulbs work just as well as reptile specific Basking bulbs.

could have saved a few hundred on bulbs. lol, well think i'm going to switch over to normal bulbs now.
