I am very interested in a chameleon. I thought I would hang out here and find out what I can before running to buy one. I have been reading a lot on the internet the past few days, looking at the cages and requirements.

Just wanted to say hi! :)

Hello and welcome, you've come to the right place, everyone is freindly and there is tonnes of brilliant advise to be had on here.

Welcome!
What species are you most attracted to?
We can better help you with your research if we know this.;)

I was looking at a veiled chameleon at the reptile shop here. I have since learned that they are a little aggressive. I would love to have one that could come out of his cage and sit with me sometimes.

I think the panthers are beautiful! They are also pretty expensive and seem to need a lot more care. Being a newbie at this I think I need something a little easier.

Do you have any suggestions for me?

And thanks to you all!

I tried to fill out the about me portion of my profile, but for some reason can not find where to edit it. lol

I am from Plainview TX.

I have been looking at some of the chameleons for sale here. Of course, I am in no hurry, need to get the cage and everything set up first.

Oh and since reading up on how chameleons should be cared for and their cages and such...I don't like how that poor veiled is being caged. He is in a small aquarium, no vegetation, cedar on the bottom, one small branch lying in the bottom and a bowl pf water at the back of the cage. He was about maybe 6 to 7 inches in length. Want to rescue him really bad.

Welcome to the site. Research, research, research! Veiled chameleon's are great for first time owners. I'll be getting my first chameleon(veiled) at the end of this week. This site is great to find information and ask questions.

Welcome to the forum Tina.:)

I admire your patients towards your purchase. It is very important to become well educated before entering this great hobby, as it may not be for everyone. Chameleons are amazing animals, and raising them can be challenging, yet very rewarding. I would recommend hanging around here for a while and absorbing all the valuable information provided. It will enable you to choose the correct chameleon, and provide the proper care. Good luck Tina!:)

Welcome to the forum.

It is not uncommon for pet stores to keep chameleons in totally inadequate conditions. And unfortunately as a result those chameleons are often unhealthy. As you might not yet know the signs of illness to look for, You might be better off purchasing from a reputable breeder.

Panther chameleons arent any more difficult, in my opinion, than veileds. Just more costly initially. But keeping chameleons isnt an inexpensive hobby, so the initial few hundred is minor in the scheme of things.

I want a chameleon so very bad! Have decided I better start with a lizard that is a little easier to care for. I decided to go with a chinese water dragon. I am still going to hang here every now and then because eventually I do want a chameleon.

Thanks to all for your help. ;)
