Since you are not cycling the water back through (like you would in a fishtank) and using clean water for the system they are not needed at ALL.

Although I can see the benefits from removing chlorine and stuff. Maybe not such a bad idea.

i think i am going to try one out. i made my water receptical out home depot bucket and a deeprock style water bottle that goes ontop. easy to fill that way. i get water from walmart $.29 a gallon. but you never know. that isn,t a lot of money to me at least that is one less thing to worry about. thanks!
