Live or dead sticks from tree for veiled chameleon cage?

I have a large bush, not sure what kind, in my front yard. I had my bf cut some branches off so I can put in my veiled's cage. Do I need to "bake" these branches, or can I just rinse them off with a hose? Or do they need to dead branches to put in there? I'm just not sure about bugs on them!? I don't see any, but I'm sure there could be microscopic ones..?? Any suggestions on live or dead branches and what to do with them before I place then in her cage? And is there any "unsafe" trees/bush sticks I shouldn't use? My bf just informed me that some of the branches are from a walnut tree.. And the other from the bush..

Bake them of freeze them if you want to be sure. You want to be sure you know what type of plant is going in the enclosure. Some saps can be a serious irritant or even toxic. So search the web and see what you have before it goes in there.
