Chameleon Behavior

Is an active chameleon a happy chameleon? My Reno's been crawling all over her cage today. I can tell when she's hungry because she comes to the front of her cage. Today she's eating like a real pig!

Depends on the chameleon really. Some of my Veileds are fairly active, my K Multi's are active, my Panthers are mostly inactive, my Mellers are active depending on their mood and/or if it is a feeding day. Pygmies always seem to be trucking around. My Oustalets were rarely active.

"Trucking around"--I like that description. Thanks

How old is she? Could she be looking for a place to lay eggs? Do you have a place in the cage for her to dig to show you she's ready?

She's 4.5 months old, never bred. She does have a pot with vermiculite in her cage.

Vermiculite is a dangerous laying medium, and potentially deadly if swallowed since it expands when water is added. Sand, or sand and soil, or just soil, or sand mixed with coconut fiber are much better ways to go.

I would put washed playsand in instead...the vermiculite is for putting the eggs in to incubate and I worry about it causing impactions. Many chameleons can lay eggs without being mated, BTW.

Oh heck. I MEANT coconut fiber stuff, NOT vermiculite. Had that on my brain since I was repotting some plants this morning. Forgot she could lay eggs without being mated. Would she do that at 4.5 months of age? TIA from this newbie...

no she is not goiing to lay eggs 4,5 is far to young , when she's very active coukd mean several things , because she's eating so wel and running around she's probaby in that fase she's pubering , checking around her domain , nothing to worry about if that "running around go's on for several day's it cood mean she not satisfied with her cage settings does she have spots were she can hide "be invissible" ? they need a hiding place or 2 , maybe its to hot for her , like i said it coud mean plenty things , ceep an eye on her on soon you wil now wath's going on
