    My thoughts on UV Lighting

As SonTigerPantherCham said in an earlier thread "Speaking from experience, having a solarmeter really is the only way to be confident of your numbers" And that is correct. All bulbs have varied output.... over time. Cages, angles, distances, time, etc will all play a part. One never...

What age to start seperating your babies?

I can't tell if you are asking if new hatchlings need to be separated because of size difference (I do this at first until they are all eating crickets and then combine again) or at what age (like 3-4 months) they have to be separated into individual cages.

When to throw out ff culture

I raise both Hydei and Malanogaster. I will say that the Hydeis take forever compared to the Malanogaster. Nice to have the big flies, but there is a reason most people seem to have Melanogaster and I'm pretty sure it is the time thing. Once a culture has started producing I do not keep it...

So you guys broke me down...

I had a blaberus (not sure on spelling) hybrid colony for quite some time and it was great! However, "Mrs Duke" finally put her foot down and announced that she could put up with chameleons, the snake, and dart frogs, but no more roaches! In all actuality they were easy to take care of and...

    CFLs and UV

I have always wondered how much UV regular bulbs put out. Based on this it seems that most have negligible amounts. I wish I owned a meter. i have always wondered how much mine are actually getting even with the special lamps. With distance, screen, etc, there are many variables and I just...

    black chameleon

My veileds will turn black, but usually when freaked and not other times. Moving them is one of the things that will freak them (mine at least). I see it most often when I put a female in w/ a male to see if she is receptive. Black with turquoise spots is a very clear signal for me to put her...

    Cameras

There is a "point and shoot" that has the advanced processor for excellent quality. The Canon G-12. It has the Digic IV processor that would cost MUCHO to get in a DSLR. One could also get a used G-10 and save some cost. I like and use a DSLR so I can't personally vouch but have always...

Adopted a Vield with no tongue

Some better options have already been given; but.....if you still need a better way to get the crickets with the tongs, just put a few in a small container and put it in the fridge for a few. Mellows them right out and they are much easier to grab.

All Too Familiar Pet Store Scene

The conversation went like this: I: hey, you guys have a gravid female cham and she needs to be able to dig down to lay her eggs They: Yeah, she does that sometimes. She digs around and lays an egg a day or so sometimes. I: She needs to be put in a bucket or something with 10 inches of...

    Pygmys and Dart frogs together?

But if you are going to attempt it (the DIY, giant vivarium with a fan that is), Dendroboard has a video of "how to build a vivarium fan system" right on the homepage.
