WC question

So today a had my second fecal reading for a WC Meller I purchased from a super gross pet store. To my shock, it was again Negative. I was sure that this big dude would be loaded with parasites, just based on his circumstances. He has always had a great appetite, solid stool that looks normal by all accounts. So what gives, could I have just lucked out. Do some importers actually worm these guys?
Thanks

Well, it depends on when the last exam was... some of the parasites have longer life cycles than others. This is why institutions have quarantine for 90 days + 3 clean fecals as standard.

The parasites can bloom when the cham starts getting good, regular meals... more nutrition is more to go around.

The other things to check for are blood parasites.

Good luck!

not to hijack but what parasites can u see in fecals? Is it like roundworms or nematoads? I have experience reading these kind of fecals, just wondering if I could save a few $ by doing it myself.

Hey Guys,
I actually took him to Geoff Stein in Beverly Hills. He actually keeps chameleons himself. I have had my Mellers for almost 3 months. I apologized I should have clarified, we did do blood work as well. He also treated some old wounds that were on the snout and fin along my Mellers back. But so far zip for bugs. I will have another exam in 4 weeks and that should be the last trip.

Like the GI tract, the blood parasites can come and go in cycles.

Have annuals done, and keep track of his weight monthly.

If it is a baby melleri, it may indeed be cleaner than adults.

Thanks for your reply. He is an adult for sure. He is a big guy. I am hoping it will be our last trip for awhile. As you stated, the vet has also had us coming every 4 weeks to catch a parasite cycle. I am hoping I just lucked out so how, just seems crazy.

If it were me I would get some Panacur and Flagyl just to be safe. They are not very expensive nor are they that hard on the animal. IMHO
