I was initially impressed with it but it's not that great. The criticisms that it is $60 for 1/3 of a game are somewhat accurate. The campaign takes less than half as much time to play through as the original Starcraft, and it was definitely only 1/3 of a game from a narrative perspective. The story was actually a disaster IMO. You can play the levels in whatever order you want but the cutscenes were certainly meant to be viewed in a certain order, so it's very disjointed. Then there was the "mini campaign," which caused an already slow-moving story to grind to a halt.
I liked a lot of the level designs but they needed to be mixed with levels that allow for more flexibility. It gets boring having the "correct" unit for each level laid out for you. I wanted more massive battles against tough opponents where you pick your own strategy like SC1 had. The multiplayer seems extremely rushed, with most of the units from Brood War and single player gone. They were lazy and didn't want to balance a game with a large number of units right now for $60 when they know they can get you to pay $180 over a couple of years for what should be in a single game.
It also seems like the community is going to be too competitive for me to have any fun. I can leave BFBC2 for a few weeks, come back, and still rack up kills after a quick warmup. I would have to constantly play SC2 to be even halfway decent.
