Selling eggs?

I just have a question for some of you breeders out there.

Someone on Craigslist is selling Ambilobe panther chameleon eggs. They were laid on November 1. Would it be safe to buy these eggs? The seller claims they are already in appropriate incubation substrate.

I'm just more curious than anything...:confused:

Do you have any proof that these eggs are fertile and that they were put in the right substrate?? Next, I would sure hope that this person is within driving distance to get them, because you certainly would not want them sloshing all over the place if they were shipped to you. :eek:
 
Well, I know I've sold a few eggs and I wasnt ripping people off. But craigslist sellers scare me.
For sure you'd want to SEE the eggs, ensure they are in an appropriate medium, and be quite certain they were fertile, and not have far to go with them. and probably you'd like to see the parent animals too. As far as I know, the only way to be sure about fertility is for the eggs to be quite far along so you can candle. Or of course if the seller is someone you know and trust perhaos you can take their word for it. trust in the seller is important if you need the animals that hatch out to actually be amibilobe, rather than potentially some hybrid.
 
Selling eggs is rude?????????? Not that it would even interest me but i'm curious to know why you think it's rude? Is the sale of chicken eggs for breakfast rude too ?

We are not talking about chicken eggs. If my thoughts dont interest you, why ask?
Sandra points out a few good reasons for a start. Its selling something not garanteed.
 
I don't see anything wrong with selling eggs, but as couple have mentioned, nothing is guaranteed, you don't know what you are getting unless it is from a trustworthy source and if you do buy them, will they hatch?
Is it worth it? Only you can decide.
 
These are my eggs on CL. I was only interested in selling a few to buy food/supplies for my growing cham collection. I was given a hatch garuantee by the guy I got her from so I am able to garuantee any egg I sell. I have only sold 2 (to the same guy) and since it has almost been a month I wont be selling any after Dec. 1st. I was told (by my breeder, and people on here) that you can move (even ship!!!) an egg if it is under 1 month old.

Not to take sides are start a fight, but I must agree that (assuming the seller is in fact a completely unknown breeder with no reputation), the entire concept of selling eggs of any exotic animal on such a generalized website is rude. Specifically rude in the idea that if the seller is without reputation, its the Barnum theory of a sucker born every minute (I am not saying the person who started this thread is a sucker, but the seller on craigs list is hoping to bait one). Even if the eggs truly are what the seller claims them to be, there is no promise of them hatching not to mention the idea of transporting eggs unprofessionally is very risky in itself. The seller is being rude to assume some one would potentially throw money to the wind on something that would be sold at the same or less price on an already born, healthy baby from a reputable breeder. I am not trying to offend anyone with this response, simply shed light on what might be another's take on why a gesture might be considered "rude" or done without concern to others.

lol I knew it was you Dustin. Good luck with selling them. I personally would not invest in something like that that's just me but there are a few people on the found who have bought eggs and it ended up working out. Good luck with selling the eggs. (not saying good luck in a sarcastic way so don't get offended)

If these are the eggs from Eric at chameleons101, I believe they're good. Now actually selling said eggs is a bit questionable in my opinion. If I sold some one these eggs and some thing went wrong (that wasn't their fault) then I'd want to make up for said egg with a baby when it hatched or another egg, but that's just me. I'd feel bad if an egg molded and the buyer was gipped from getting a really nice red body blue bar ambilobe. Just my two cents.


Anyways, good luck selling them! I've always wondered how that went down. :)

It's not your thought i wasn't interested in it was buying eggs from someone .

I must understand the meaning of rude to be different than you do. It is not deliberatly discourteous or impolite (rude) to sell something.

It may be risky to buy. But that doesnt make it rude to sell.
Anyone buying something without a warranty/guarantee is taking a risk, be it an egg (which may not hatch,especially if you dont know what you are doing), a small lizard (which may die young, especially if you dont know what you are doing), or a sandwich (which may not taste as good as you expected).
 
In my eyes an egg is 10 times easier to care for than a live cham. With that being said ANYONE I sell an egg to I talk to for a while and see what they know. I tell them all about the forums and they come to my house to see whats its like to care for the chams themselves. I AM NOT TRYING TO GET RICH!!!! I am trying to get more people in my area into chams...I was only selling 5 to begin with, because I want the 35 others for my self. If they were bad eggs you would be able to tell by now. If you bought an egg from me you are GOING TO GET A CHAM! Either it hatches or I give you a juvi for free! Who wouldnt be comfortable with that? It's crazy how ANYTHING in this forum turns into an argument not a debate with pros and cons(like it should be) just people not giving advice, talkin shit. It is sad, seems to only be a hand-ful of people though, I'm sure everyone pays no attention to them like I do!:D Thanks to all you on here being polite and giving good info without venting some bullshit based off of assumptions.


P.s.- you can buy eggs from many dif animals ( always way cheaper than the live one) I bought 2 shark eggs before from a marine shop, it IS the same situation.

I built a new cage for my male Veiled and bought some crickets...Didn't even have any left to get any gas, so really I payed out of pocket to do this.
