Sambava Colors

Hugh has just finished up with his second molt with me and I noticed that this time, I see more greens and a new blue to his face and cask. From what I have read or maybe just assumed, Sambavas don't have blues on them. I have a picture of his dad and I don't see any blues at all on him... Of course I know that not all Cham's take after their dads and can possibly take after the mother or her father and so forth.

Here are a couple of my little dude, I just took them a few minutes ago. I just hate how much the flash drains the blues and greens... :(

Sure they do! Sambavas go through a teenage blue phase. They usually get out of it by 2 years, but once in a while a rare one will keep the blue. Hyperion has blue bars all the time. He can't make up his mind between grey, blue, red, pink, and purple. :)

He will be bursting with fresh colors in a few months. Hang in there!
Who did you get him from?

Trust me i'm trying! Lol! I'm going to keep a close eye on him to see what other new colors pop out. He just shed and I can't wait for him to shed again.

I got him from Amazing Blue Reptiles here in San Diego. :)

From your experience, see the red he has on his belly? You think that'll pop out some more with time? Hugh is driving me nuts, I know I can't really guess what he'll look like but man I hope he ends up looking like his dad.

Yeah, the belly red usually stays red with the upper bars being more blue. The tail seems to be more red as do the legs, but not always. It's hard to tell if they will look like their sire, but your boy is definitely going to look great. His undercolors are really nice. A lot of sambavas have dull or blah kind of colors, but his are nice and bright.

Dont' worry Sambavas do tend to have blues in them. Unfortunately they do take longer than other locales to fully reach their adult colors. Pm and I'll send you some pics of mine.

Awesome, thank you.

Yes, like someone already said, you picked a locale that takes on average much longer than others to completely read adult coloration! :D But the patience will be well rewarded, I'm sure. My ambilobe also took almost 9 months to really get the yellows and reds he shows all the time now.

Does anyone have an adult Sambava and lots of pictures showing the progression of his colors? I'd really like to see how the color change from babies to adult. :D

Okay, I bought Hyperion as a girl so he was Isis before I found out he was not an Isis! :)

Edit: oh yeah, I got him at 5 months old so the previous two months that are not shown basically were like the tail pictures a few posts down in the first thread. Nothing special.

Kara, you're sambava is awesome. Mine is 11-12 months old and it's still not showing any sweet colors. This is my sambava months ago, and these are his color, kind of dull, but really hoping he turns out like his dad.
