New owner have some questions..

I'm in los angeles (torrance area) and work in downtown. I'm looking to buy one either tomorrow online. been researching all night. I like the ones at LLL cause they seem strong the other ones seen cheap for some reason.

I highly recommend the screen cages from LLL-that is what I mostly use, but you need something ASAP, Reptariums work OK-they have a zipper close.

Howdy,

I'm over here in Manhattan Beach, probably within 20 minutes of you :). I'll be around Thursday and Friday night after work as well as this weekend if you want to stop by. I have some loaner enclosures (24x24x48) etc. One is out with Luckykarma but he said he is finished with it and arrangements could be made to get it in your hands right away. You could borrow it and another one until you have your own from LLL. I'll toss you a PM for phone contact info :). I also have a bunch of used lighting etc. for loan or purchase at very cheap prices that would be good to use until you get nice new ones :).

Also, you hit the jackpot being located in Torrance. You are probably within minutes of our South Bay Chameleon Keepers meeting location in Torrance near Van Ness. The next evening meeting is August 26th. Send an email to [email protected] and one of the founders will email back the details. No membership dues either :).

Perhaps your dad has some sort of construction background? Maybe he can help you build a cage? I build most of mine from wood and aluminum screen from Lowes... as long as the wood is treated with a polyurethane to make it waterproof it would be fine for chams..

Wow , looking at theese people helping you out , just makes me happy. I thank this forum.. love to this site. And I hope you will get your chams back on their little tiny feet!!! And why dont we all protest against the sick false information PetCo give out to people. I dont really like many of your pet shops in USA. Here in Sweden we got the best animal care around this world. You cant buy dogs, cats in pet stores, why, because we want healthy dogs and cats showing on documents that their parents and grand parents are ill-free.
You need to get your reptiles houseing approved from the Animal Protection. We do even have senior highschools where to learn animal care. Im in the third grade, soon graduating and wow I learned ALOT from it. Now Im working at a Reptile Center that gives out information about Snakes, Lizards, Amphibians and especially Chams! (Thats my J-O-B)
You may find this aukward ( dont know how to spelll ) but man, i get so frustrated. (And ofcourse we got loonies here too)

You guys on this site, Love the work! Keep it up!

I can't agree more this site has been a big help unlike (petco!) Dave Weldon I sent you a message!

Another question do I need a ceramic light which I have now? Or was that just petco's way of making me spend $70 on a light?

That was Petco's way to make you spend $$$. All yoy need is an $8.00 clamp lamp and a 60W-75W househiold lightbulb. Chams associate the white light with basking heat!

WOW LOL. So should I just use the ceramic until it goes out or replace it with a house hold light?

This is a good light for them correct? ( http://www.reptilesupply.com/product.php?products_id=652 )for UVB

that one is a mehhhh... product.

this product is the best light for them:

refund all those light to Petco if you can.

get a cheap fixture at wal mart or home depot.
don't forget to remove the plastic covering.
UVB can't pass glass or plastic.

Think Lowes would have them? I don't have a wal mart near me.

Absolutely, They are around $15 bucks at Lowes...You will even be able to get a fixture big enough to span over both cages, cutting down on your cost of bulbs...since one bulb will light both cages. Considering it doesn't matter if you order the 2 foot bul or the 4 foot bulb..it is the same price.

Awesome I'm heading over there today to get the fixture and 2 plants for them. Also is there anywhere in the southbay (los angeles area) that sells house flys?

tbs350z, they accept paypal and will ship the flies to you.
they don't allow pick up.
It should arrive in a day or two.

If you gonna buy aluminum screen cage at lllreptile, you don't need a soft tray.
The cage come with a plastic tray.
