Don’t lick the slideAnyone have any advice on running fecals? My new microscope arrives today, and I’m gonna spend the next week looking at poop!
Really? Shoot! Too late.Don’t lick the slide
Good question, thanks for asking as I am about to do the same.Anyone have any advice on running fecals? My new microscope arrives today, and I’m gonna spend the next week looking at poop!
You’re a champ, thanks!
So you’re talking float here, not direct smear right?Be sure to read the entire slide depending on how evenly ou place the cover slip all the ova can be used to one side. I scroll top to bottom in a serpentine pattern going from edge of view to edge of view. I find left to right makes me seasick.
Do not let the fecal solution and cover slip sit for longer than 10 minutes or you will have to many crystals in the way to read it properly.
Do not put the oil immersion lens on to the cover slip as you will crack the slip and possibly the lens.
There is more if you have any specific questions once you get started let me know.

Where do I get a fecalizer and fecasol in Canada? @GoodKarma19I've always had luck finding giardia on the direct smears and there is another flagellate who name escapes me that is a parasite if found in mammals and may or may not be one in reptiles (commensal).
Dang! Don’t you get Prime free shipping up in the Northern lands?Yeah, had to get through Amazon.com, cost me 85$ shipping to Canada. Literally doubled the order. Ugh!
