Miy first Chameleon :)

Hello,
you can just use one of those hooks with a screw thread (i don´t know how to describe it), to let the bulb hang from the ceiling. If the bulb you mentioned is the ReptiGlo 5.0 lamp (at least that´s it´s name in germany), you must change it for a proper one like the Bright Sun Jungle Spot 50W. The ReptiGlo bulbs do not give the right kind of UVB, which has noch positive effects but ofter leads to eyeproblems.

This is the type of bulb I have, is it the right kind?

I know exactly the type of hooks that you are talking about, good idea - THANKS!

Hello,
i´m not quiet sure whether the neon tubes are dangerous, too but in your place i would not take the risk. For proper UV try to keep him outside as much as possible when the weather allows it. Windows will not allow UV rays to get through so you should buy or build a special cage for keeping hin outside. A really good UV bulb is the Bright Sun jungle spot from lucky reptile. Unfortunately its quite expensive, needs a power supply unit and needs to be exchanged every 6 months. Another opportunity is the Osram ultra vitalux which is not made for permanent use but for temporary use. This bulb is expensive too but doesn´t need a power supply unit, You need to find out how often you can use it for your chameleon somehow.

yes sire u are well on your way to raising a happy healthy cham way to go!!!!

Phew, I thought I was going crazy by not knowing my reptile bulbs. I keep many other reptiles (turtles, skinks, geckos, snakes) but this is my first cham.

well your doing good cause you have good experiences with reptiles even though chams care is way different, but thats what sites like this are for to help each other out. no one will know everything about them but we try and plus everyone has their opinions on each species of chams and thats a plus and very good thing tricks of the trade for everyone to know and to help each other out.

When I decided to get the chameleon I did most of my research on this site. I prefer forums to care sheets on the web.

Hello,
concratulations, taht guy is really cute. You should increase the distance of the bulb, otherwise he might burn his feet while climbing at the fly-screen.

I was able to get a different light fixture and now the bulb is not touching the screen so his feet wont get burned.

I don´t think it will stress him much if you take one or two pictures of the cage as you do not have to come really close. It´s fine to try to not stress your cham but don´t overdo it or he will be like "what the hell" if you´ll need to handle him more intensely one day.
Just try to not wake him up when he sleeps and not handle him if possible but you do not need to avoid entering his room.
What time is it around your place?

Ok, I'll snap a few pics. He is in the living room, so I enter his "room" frequently. Our house is not very active though, only myself and my husband and we rarely have people over. I was just trying to leave him be for right now because I just got him. Once he settles I plan on doing a small photoshoot.

The time now is 4:45 PM. I don't get home from work until about 6 PM so he is alone all day for most of the week.

Guess this should be more or less okay, althoug the living room is not the best place for a chameleon. Are you inside there till late at night?
