any Adivce?

Veileds are defensive, territorial, and mean. It's highly possible your cham will become even more aggressive in the coming months. Judging by your avatar I'm guessing your veield is under 7 months old?

It's a sign of health and a sign that your cham calls his space 'home'. He likes it, he doesn't want you invading it, he doesn't care that you provided it, as far as he's concerned, you're trespassing when the screen cage opens.

It's what is so charming about these creatures! :) It gets easier!

Chameleons are not "social" pets. Do not expect your little girl to ever like you, they are solitary animals that are best left alone. You are just a huge predator to her, and she is stressed out every time you handle her.

Some members will offer you different stories with their animals, but how this interaction is interpreted in the eyes of the beholder in my opinion. I don't think that the classic story of "my little cham RUNS TO SEE ME the second i open the door, hes really friendly and hangs out on my sholder all day" is legit - what is really happening is that you are interpreted to them as a source of food - a provider.

That is about as good as it will really get without risking their health. Hand feeding is the pinnacle of excitement for me as far as interaction goes with these, other than that, I avoid handling my guy at all costs. More handling = more stress. More stress= a weakened immune system. A weakened immune system = you coming back to forums trying to figure out why your little girl is sick and wont eat :)

HAHA!
I wish I had my usb cable right now.
I took some funny picutes today at work.

Ok, I got a story for you about mean female Veileds.
Not only do they hate you, but they hate other chameleons too.
I was cleaning out Monty's(T.Montium) cage today, and I have some cages side by side.
So when I opened the door of Monty's cage I set him on it.
While I was cleaning his cage Girl(female Veiled) caght a glimpse of Monty sitting ontop of his open door.
She went NUTS!
She turned almost black and was clawing at the her screen cage trying to get to him.
She started to stick her tounge out to eat him!
Thank God her cage wasnt open, or I would be short a chameleon.

your female veiled is scary, Justin :D
She could teach my veiled a thing or two. He's a wuss.:p

Yea, very scary....

I've learnt with my veiled he wont 'like' me he doesn't trust me he hates being looked at. He doesn't like to come out I use either a stick from his cage or a plant from his cage(I don't do this often as I know its not fair to stress him) He hates my skin. He'll walk on my jumper but as soon as I try to put him on my arm he will lunge hiss etc go black and everything else lol.

I dont know about Veileds, but I know my Panther LOVES me..that is if he can love. When I open the cage, he comes to the front and climbs onto my fingers and goes straight to the top of my head. Where he would stay (if i would let him), he is always his "happy content" colors when I open it..

I think the ONLY time he has ever turned black and hissed at me is when
I woke him up too quickly and tried to get hime to move, so I could clean something. I didnt know he was asleep...I guess it startled him.

SO, my advice is, get a Panther :)

BUT, all chams have very different personalities, some will love you immediately and others will hate you for life. Just be patient and dont force her upon you. Let her slowly adjust.
GOOD LUCK! :)

Erm..just random, but are all of your chameleons afraid of loud noises?? Mine isnt in the least. I sometimes I even sit him on a plant in the living room while I watch TV, (just cus I watch him during the commercials) and he isnt scared at all, actually he usually goes to sleep. Even when I watch loud horror movies... Is mine just weird?? I can have music in his room and stuff goin on around him and he just doesnt seem to care. Its really lucky I guess..

Just so you guys know, my Avatar pic is outdated..he is nearly full grown now. :)

You are not lucky.. Chameleons dont have ears, they only can "sense" vibrations. My aspirations of turning Sven into a DJ have allready been crushed :(

edit: DOH! dodolah you beat me too it!

nice thanks guys, and that picture of the chameleon was crazy lookin but really cool.
but anyways thats good to know about that stuff. thanks!

My Veiled is very sweet. He goes back and forth in front of his door and wants out all the time. He would like for me to hold him 24/7 if I could.

Cool, I never thought of him not being able to hear. I always just figured he was used to the noise or something!

Also, I read someone elses earlier post and they said that basically said when people say thier chams "run to see them" not being entirely true. I agree, even though I said the same thing. No chameleon will run, happy to see you and jump to get on you at the sight of you. Ever.

I do know, however, that when I open his cage, when he slowly walks to the open cage door to look around, and when I put my hand near him, he climbs on. This entire time, his colors are happy and content. He climbs up my arm and usually onto my ponytail to get to my head, where he sits. I know the only reason he sits there is because its the highest place. I also know, that if he didnt "trust" me, or at least tolerate me, He would be black and refuse to go any further. He would freak and never want to leave his tree. Just the fact that they dont hate you is reason to celebrate.

So he may not "love" me but he is comfortable enough to relax and climb around me without being frightened. Honestly, I think this is a VERY exciteing thing, and the reason most people say that their chameleons absolutley LOVE them, is because for a Cham, this is about as close as it gets to being a "loving pet." So they MUST have at least some degree of "love" to tolerate you, since chameleons are not known to be the most friendly and careing creatures on the planet.

WOAH...I just realized what a rant that was...im going to stop now...sorry if the rant sounded hostile, I didnt mean to!

Some veileds calm down with age. I think when they're young and growing they feel more like prey (with YOU the predator) than when they get big. My big male veiled (1 1/2 yr) has become considerably more tolerant of me. He gets agitated when I reach in to get him out, but once he's out he mostly ignores me, even if he's on me. I read a thread on here where a guys veiled calmed down at about 2 1/2 years old.

Also, be cognizant of what you are wearing. Some colors set chameleons off. If it seems particularly pissy one day, make note of what you're wearing and see if it happens again with a similar color.

thats cool, I only held her 3 times, I just feed her and leave her alone. but she dosent like when I look at her. pretty werid
