I Got Buzzed with Sound effects!

Miss Lily

Chameleon Enthusiast
Yesterday I had Amy sat on my shoulder enjoying some sunshine. I turned my head to look at her and briefly touched her dorsal crest with my nose (she smells lovely!!). She responded by 'buzzing' me, but she also made a noise at the same time! She is quite good at buzzing if you should happen to touch her, but I have never heard her make a noise too! It was kind of like the vibration noise of a mobile on vibrate, but more like a growl! I just thought I'd share, as Lily never did this and Tommy doesn't either. I know it meant she was pissed with me but I thought it was quite cute, lol!:D

I've been buzzed at several times by one of my pygmeleons, but never by a larger cham. She could have been growling - the intent was probably the same! - I was growled at by a mouse once, when I had it cornered in the kitchen and was trying to get it in a box and escort it outside - it was unmistakably a growl, but sounded like a very quiet motor running.

I can't believe Amy would growl at you! It does sound really cute. I have had them gape and hiss but no buzzing. You always get the good stuff. But on the other hand, I just had 2 new Jackson's delivered.:D

Laurie, it's just not fair! You get all those wonderful chams with horns  and I get friendly Veileds, one of which now growls at me too, lol!!:D

my male does it often when i touch his back

Does he make the noise too, or does he just 'buzz' you? You have to be really close to hear it, it's really hard to describe!

Cool! It's fun when you learn something new! My veiled male does the "vibrating" thing when he has to come inside, it's neat, but I do know he's angry, especially if it's been a hot day.

At risk of sounding like a moron, what exactly is buzzing?

I had heard about it but only felt it once with my first female. It's usually when they are not happy about something - they do this wierd vibration thing in their bodies and usually you feel it as a short, sharp 'buzz'/vibration kind of sensation. My first female only ever did it once after she had a shot at the vets. She was very placid, but Amy is more fiesty, bless her! I am used to Amy buzzing but it just amazed me that she actually made a noise this time too, lol! I love her to bits!:D

Hurray for Amy !! lol The girl`s got attitude ;):D Gizzy never buzzed until her recent vets jabs, but now she has learnt she uses it frequently to let me know who`s boss. I am curious about the "growl" though as Gizzy does a sneezing sound - it is pretty funny :D

Laurie - I am so jealous ! Jacksons are amazing, you are so lucky. :D

My vieled buzzed with the noise the first day i brought him home [he was @ 6 months old i was told]. He's never done it again though. He bit my grandson the first day also and never again. He's not crazy about being held, he runs, but if food is involved he puts up with anything.

Camille makes this little vibrating noise just about every evening when she get tired and ready for bed. I've only heard Luie make it once and again it was right before bed when they were very laid back and relaxed.

At least you get friendly chams! Mind you, lately Hugo tolerates me (me that he doesn't actively try to bite me) and sometimes he even tries to come out on me. For ages he would only come out to Joe - we thought he was gay! :D
