Health clinic Stickies!!

I recently thought what if we have different stickies labeled the main common things like Eye problems, Skin Problems, Mouth Problems, Lethargic, Dehydrated, Nutrition, Baby care, ETC. or maybe a main sticky labeled COMMON PROBLEMS and once that is clicked maybe a list of sub categories like listed above. Any member that would like to contribute information to these stickies. Blog the Problem, Symptoms and treatments and post it in the appropriate sticky with a link to your blog. These stickies are not to be commented on. All that is needed is "to the point" useful information. If you would like to comment, post it on the blog. This would be easier for a new member or senior member or even a guest to look up what some of us would recommend as a solution to a problem they might have.

We do have a search button but many opt out of not using it. Other also say it is useless. I have used it many times over and find it helpful but again it is not straight to the point.

I dont explain anything right and my grammar skills are less than par. So to start this off with an example.

Sticky thread title "Dehydrated".
I would post from my blog. The title of the blog and link.

Sticky thread title "Eye Problems"

Common Eye Problems and Solutions

What do you think???

I think its a great idea!

I vote for the "common problems" with sub categories. I think this could help a lot of people.

I really like this idea! Like the idea of having it include the common medications and what types of medical supplies to keep on hand for chams.

I see your point.
I think.
IMO it would be best to break the health forum down into sub-catagories.
Like you click health and a list of specilized forums come up.

Health---|
|----General
|----Nutrition
|----Supplementation
|----Tongue Problems
|----Eye Problems
|----Neo-Natal
|----MBD
|----Ect.......

The benefit being that when someone is trying to research their problem, say its an eye problem, they could just go to "Eye Problems" and after reading through a few pages of threads on JUST eye problems, the person would have a much better understanding of the possible issues and outcomes to do with the most common eye issues than if they searched for eye problems and went from there.
It would also overide the issue of search failures. I have found great results with the search function, and great dissapointment too. It can be difficult to search for "eye problems" and the word "eye" is omitted because it is too common
Everything would be condensed into its own area, and kept organized.

The first thing I think should be addressed though is the smiley situation.
I like our smileys, but they are lacking.
Somtimes I need a "serious" face, and its not there:(
A thumbs up or down for "in-post" use would be great as well...

Your idea mixed with mine made it even better. Yours would lead people to the correct place to read or post. Mine would give "to the point" info. The only down side i see is having many places to look for people having problems. Where as it is now you just click once and you see all of them. Maybe the ability to just click "Health clinic" and it would bring all of them together in one view where you could only "reply" and not post a "new thread"..You would have to click specific category for "new thread".

This would be a great improvement to our health clinic! making things easier for everyone is awesome!!

It would be sweet to see that implemented.
Having it all broken down into categories, with a main feed similar to the main-page.
Seems like alot of overhaul though, and to complicated for reality:p
There seem to be a few efforts to make FAQs and Help blogs/stickys, and generaly try to improve the system. So there are others that feel it could be changed for the better.
Good luck!;)

...and the smileys, do you think we need more? Or are they fine?

Just lack of someone putting in the time to write it all out. Brad can make them stickies, but there has to be something there to make a sticky! It's on my to-do list for later stages of new owner resources type stuff, but I'm a bit bogged down in the initial parts right now so it will have to wait. But if someone else wants to give it a go I can incorporate it in!

ok, everyone that reads this..please pm me your blogs, articles or whatever you have that might be helpful.

Ill start the two i have mentioned. we will see what kind of response we do have.

pictures of common probelsm should also be included(like a pic of MBD and a pic of mouth rot, and even pics of gravid colors with eggs ect)

Yes I agree.

The trouble I see is, we can gather random info from lots of people, but its all going to be a mess.
We would need to setup a structure and format, then we can fill in the blanks with appropriate information. It needs to be able to grow, so things like pictures, could be added, as well as updated information.
Somthing like this, that is focused on the health forum, could really make this site alot better suited to helping people. Not that it isnt already, but we all seem to agree, it could be streamlined some at least.
If somthing was done, and done right, it would be worthwhile.
Ill help with whatever, but I still want more smileys...

If we have 10 stickies at the top of the health clinic section. we will have to scroll down to get to the postings. thoughts?

Yes.
Break the health section, into many sections.
Then have the "general info sticky" at the top of each section. That way there is only one sticky per catagory.
Thats the only way I see it happening.
Im not sure how difficult it would be to organize the currently existing threads, but I imagine that would be the main mess:p

If you make it too complicated people will post in the wrong place, someone will comment on that fact every time inevitably, and then they get put off from ever posting again. Or if they're not sure where to post, maybe they just won't. Simplicity is the key.
