Gaping

you said you have a tube light? I am not seeing it? So the spiral light is the UVB and the other is the basking then? Confused!!! The spiral is your UVB from what I can see. Is he gaping under that or the other light. And the other light what is the wattage?

they look like both basking lights, just one is the compact spiral 5.0 (basking and uvb) light..

madi, that picture of the bulb was very helpful. Can you take a similar picture of the other light? Also, can you take a picture that shows us the cage with the lights in place so we can see what's going on.

Exoterra actually recommends that the 5.0 be used in conjunction with a 2.0 for better visibility. They do specify that an additional heat lamp will be required (which sounds like a lot of light bulbs to me....)

so do i go get new ones

do you still have the boxes and recipts to them..if so return them..and either way you need new lightsyou are using basically two basking lights..one is just light and heat, the other one is light, heat, and uvb..you need one uvb, and one for heat.

ever since the companies that produced spiral reptile lights found out they where causeing blindness in animals exposed to them and re-called thousands of them..i wont touch anything even remotly similar..stick with the tried n true, 60 watt house bulb (basking) and flourecent light fixture using the tube version zoo-med 5.0 uvb light.(uvb)

Im sorry, but you seem quite young. Your parents need to get on here and study. I am very sorry I am coming off as rude.. but...Well, I have my reasons.

Young isnt always the problem its the lack of research. Im 13 and I am getting one in august and I know every thing I need to know for caring for the chameleon.

I was just in a bad mood. Sorry.
But Im actually younger. XD

haha its all good..you just said what i was thinking the whole time..but hey..the one thing he\she is doing completley right...is comming here to ask questions and see how much more can be done for the lil buddy!!

kudos for that!

Totally true! If she didnt care then she wouldnt be here. :)
I hope she can get her cham in better shape.

he gapes with the round bulb when i turn it on

your round bulb is producing too much heat then. Change that out for a 40-60 watt white house bulb. You want your basking temp to be in the low 80's. So play around with the bulbs til you get the desired temp. The coil bulb you are using looks to be a Reptiglo 5.0 UVB light. It is ok to use for your UVB. Most of us use the tubes. The coils had some problems in the past causing eye issues but the new ones are said to be fine. Go ahead and use it and if your see your cham squinting or closing his eyes from the spiral light, then change it out for the tube light.

This compact is just a UVB light and not a basking combined from what I know. So she has a uvb and a basking and apparently her basking is just too hot. I just pulled up the link from LLL and it does not say that the 5.0 spiral is a basking. To my knowledge the UVB's do not give off much heat. Am I missing something here? Correct me If I am wrong.
