Ditching the local pet store feeders.

Upon seeing my good money getting wasted on crickets who barely made the ride home, I am now turning to online cricket delivery. 1. Cheaper 2. Better 3. hopefully less dead loss. I just spent 26.00 on 300 crickets and I would say almost 1/4 are dead already and its only been 3 days. I've got flukers calcium gutload, water crystals, carrots, kale and oranges all in reach of these guys and most of them were dried up like they were in a desert. Frustrating.

iv been thinking of ordering crix online too but have thought twice for the same reason..of them dying on the way to me ..lol. i would recomend that you mist ur crickets so they wont dry up...remember not to mist them heavily,,they will drown so just lightly spray them..they like humidity.and it worx for hydrtation too .it seems to work for me..iv managed to keep them for longer times.

I know this might sound bizarre but I too had suffered a loss of 100 crickets on the way home , my wife was gonna keep em to feed our turtle and some of our fish. She put them in the fridge a few hours later they were all happy and alive.

Do not spray your crickets! The reason most die is due to humidity stress. Some crickets then die releasing ammonia which in turn kills off other crickets aswell. I would just make sure there is plenty of ventilation and they are being fed and hydrated the correct way. A sponge in a water bowel has worked and also a very shallow cup of water works too or you can either put gravel in the cup to stop drowning

I recently found out you can obtain water crystals at lowes or any home improvement store. I also use oranges for hydrations and it cuts back on the smell. I also got sick of investing 11 cents for a large cricket only for most of them to die off quickly. I get my crickets from Timberline (http://www.timberlinefisheries.com/products/feeder-insects/crickets/) and find that they are way healthier looking and last a long time with the proper ventilation.

oh man, i just threw up in my mouth at the thought of the smell of wet crickets.

I took a trip yesterday to PetCo (14th street Union Square). And they had GREATT crickets. Not one loss and all are really lively.

Granted i paid 14cents per cricket, THEY BETTER BE!!!

But i asked and paid for 30, when i got home i did a brief head count and stopped counting at 52

. I also got sick of investing 11 cents for a large cricket only for most of them to die off quickly. I get my crickets from Timberline (http://www.timberlinefisheries.com/products/feeder-insects/crickets/) and find that they are way healthier looking and last a long time with the proper ventilation.

Funny you say this. Because the PetCo seemed to be supplied by Timberline. I'll have to check them out online.

I've never had a problem with my crickets at my local Petco or petsmart I usually do get more than I ask for and they don't die on me and If u have the membership card it takes 4 cents off sometimes better than hassling with delivery and s&h fees and since it's cold where I live have to spend more money or wait longer for the crickets to get shipped making it more expensive sometimes

IN ll honesty..it depends on were you have ur crix.i have mine outside my window..theres plenty of ventilation there..and i DO SPRAY my crix..they dont die.. i also have a sponge for them and i gutload once evry other day with different veggies.

Funny you say this. Because the PetCo seemed to be supplied by Timberline. I'll have to check them out online.

jaja they do get pretty stinky man but if u have proper ventalation, a light spray will not not make it that bad..and you should be cleening out your cricket keeper atleast once a week to avoid these smells and well all the crap that builds up...its a must to keep the place sanitary for your chams health.
