There is an amazing species of gliding lizard which looks like a miniature dragon. They breed in the Philippines, Malaysia and Indonesia and look like mini versions of flying Toruks from Avatar – if you have seen the film.

They spread out the skin attached to their ribs (“wings”) to glide from one tree to another.

Tiny dragons! I want one!

That's what I look like when I don't get enough sleep. o__o I grow wings and go on a rampage.

But I want one as well. .-.

Also when I opened the link, an ad on the side showed a dragon with the same colored wings. Ironic?

OMG I HAVE TO HAVE ONE!! My fav movie at the moment just happens to be "How to train your Dragon"!! Yes, I am an adult but that is the best movie!! I would of course name mine "Toothless"!

I've seen these available time to time over the years but they are ant specialists so I've never bothered...

They look cool though. Someone on Kingsnake classifieds was trying to sell them recently claiming they would glide in the terrarium if was large enough LOL. (somehow I doubt it any more than gliding geckos- a more practical choice if you like gliders). Normally the ribs are not extended on the ribs and they look like normal lizards when not gliding...

It appears they are quite common in the wild, and are ALWAYS imports.

I kept 4 of these, not for very long though....they really need an outdoor enlcosure with access to ants. Kinda like the Thorny Devil of Australia (which is why no one has them as pets).

I tried keeping them on fruit flies, small crickets, and bean weevils with absolutely no luck.

Outdoor, large enclosure, ants. It'd be great if some people could get some large CB colonies going so they don't have to keep stealing them from the wild.

Believe me when I say you would need a huge conservatory to fully enjoy what these amazing animals are. It is unreal how they zoom through the trees like jet fighters. Their transition between air and branch is seamless. You can't tell where gliding stopped and running began and when gliding started again. It is a dynamic work of art. I never got tired of watching them chase each other.

so cool that the bones in the "wings" are actually the lizards ribs, when they glide, they deflate and flaten themselves out to show off and use their wings.

my dad's from the Philippines. i wonder if hes ever seen any when he was a kid
