today i had a panic attack as i watched minion making his path
to his after dinner snack. the son of a gun always shoots at the base of the
hibiscus at some point.
not wanting him to eat dirt. i thought i would take a "carpet" substrate i never used and cut out circles and fit them around the hibiscus "trunks"
then cover that with rock(the had rock been there before but i was afraid he could still get dirt). you could use any material, i just happened to have this Zoo Med Eco Reptile Terrarium Carpet so i used it.

what do u think?...

I actually want to try this out but then again I'm not sure. What happens if he tries to eat the carpet? I think he could get sick off that. I just heard it's better if you bake rocks and put them around the plant.

it was actually this stuff...

Zoo Med Eco Reptile Terrarium Carpet

i should have been more specific

Does the carpet allow water to seap through to the plant? I would worry about it holding in bacteria, so if you take it out and rinse it regularly it should be ok.
He should not be able to eat the carpet or pieces of it if it is a solid piece.
By the way how long have you had the hibiscus and is it doing well with just the lights form your enclosure. I have the T5 HO with a 6500k light and often wondered if that would be enough light for one. They are so nice but I have never had a lot of luck keeping one in doors or outdoors for that matter and I have a pretty good green thumb. I think it was more the heat requirements and placement more than anything.

since i got my stuff from "lightyourreptiles.com" they have been doing really well.

this is what i got, it's prolly the same

"They come with one "6.5" daylight Plant Bulb and one Arcadia 6% UV Bulb"
