I think y'all might be wrong

I saw a clip on youtube of a veiled drinking from a bowl. If I thought Mort would do it, I'd have a drip bowl in there and not worry about issues. Clean it once a day, and more often if they decide to poop in it. The trick is to clean it daily. My opinion is worth what you pay for it. Tyg

Omg!! After 4 months i found yoshi!!!

Well the current Yoshi is definitely male. Female casque and coloration is nothing like the picture of that male. The old Yoshi is unidentified until I see a hind foot clearly. That little nub/wart/growth of a spur is there from day one of a veiled baby and if you look for it, it is...

Omg!! After 4 months i found yoshi!!!

Wait a sec...I'm delighted for you and everything, but the Yoshi you lost was [theoretically] female, and the Yoshi you found was male? Inquiring minds and all that. . . Tyg

    No crickets ever??? Silkies???

Being a 'sissy' (that's me by the way) is far different from being phobic. I would never suggest that you suck up to a phobia without a lot of mental help. I detest the dubs, have too many of them, have learned that I can hold one and not hyper ventilate or die. I've managed to get rid of...

    I spoke too soon...

I love that smug look from the coatrack! if you get a moment, go to youtube and search for 'where's Mort'. I didn't get the pic of when I found him inside the cricket bucket, but he looked utterly content. Tyg

    Mulberry

Can you freeze, dry, or in someway store mulberry leaves for the long term? Mulberry trees are ubiquitous weeds here, and I want to keep silkies without necessarily buying mulberry food. Thx, Tyg

It's hard being hated by my cham

Don't rehome, don't give up, and don't expect a chameleon to be anything but a chameleon. I handle my veiled on nearly a daily basis (returning him to his cage after free-ranging), and he still detests it, hisses, strikes and clings to the least accessible points of the room...

    Misting System for Veiled Cham

It is with great reluctance that I admit I got a Monsoon against this forum's advice, and it failed at 7 months. I had two instances of it dumping the whole tank because the timer failed. Last time it also burned out the motor. I'll look into MistKing, but also into a reliable hydroponics...

    My first cham

Age is a funny thing with reptiles, and it isn't nearly as important as you would think. They mature based as much on temperature and food as they do on time. RIGHT NOW is the best time to get your nutritional information. Metablolic bone disease and kidney issues are terrible things, so...

    Update on the Tyggy household

With great sadness I must report the death of Shayna Maideleh. She is sadly missed. The wound in her side was awful, and despite veterinary care, and desperate measures, she was unable to move normally. I made the decision to euthanise her when she would only drink from my hand -- literally...

    Vet Check - 3/5

Mort was a gem at the vet. He weighed in at about 105g, and didn't offer to bite the vet at all, bless his little reptilian heart. Dr Sweet and I agreed to treat the pins and see if the rest falls into place, thinking the parasites may have overpopulated because of the stress. To my...

    Shayna - Egg bearing

Yes, she was diagnosed with MBD, and I've been steadily going through all the various changes. Her 'presenting problem' was grabbing her forelegs with her hind feet, that progressed to grabbing her flanks with her hindfeet. The initial xray did not show significant thinning of the bone...

    Shayna - Egg bearing

She's primarily black and turquoise right now, but goes back to her solid green. Any progress made on her hindleg, flank/leg grabbing, has been undone and I'm again fearing for the worst. We'll rebandage her flank with tegaderm today.

    I admit defeat...

Dear Camimom, Stick with the crickets, but to deal with the escapees, you have to NAME them so they come when they're called. Submitted for your general amusement, Tyg

    Thinking of buying a Cham!

1-Can I take it out of its cage? (I live in an apartment) let it crawl around the place, fake plants, thing like that. From what I had read on these forums they are pretty anti social and scared of the care takers, is that correct? I ask simply because I really would love to interact with it a...

    3 month old died

I'm thinking of the offgassing of the glue too in the small area of the plastic container. If it is at all possible, I would take his body to an exotics vet for necropsy. I understand that most people don't want to spend good money on a dead animal, and sometimes it doesn't give answers...

Mort and Shayna and the Vet visit

For the first time ever, Mort was offered a vine to leave his cage, and he did NOT take me up on the offer, so I had to wrestle him out. Two mouth butts and a major hissy fit later I got him out and into his cooler, Shayna out and into HER cooler, and both coolers into the car. Her follow up...

Thought my Chams tail fell off!! Turned out to be a...

Probably did come from the plant. Snails are intermediaries for a whole host of parasites, but I wouldn't worry about that. Sometime in the near future you're going to be taking a fecal, and probably the cham to the vet for a nice check up anyway. I hear that some chams like snails for lunch!

Your First Cham and Why You Chose it?

I've always been fascinated by chams. I saw my first live one when working for a vet who did exotics. When I stumbled on a reptile/amphib store (NEHerpetoculture) with two: a 3 mo female veiled and a subadult Ouasalet, we talked about terrariums, (no, they wouldn't do for a cham); and chams...
