Tragic story with Amazing ending!!!!

I had a huge scare this morning! It is a nice and sunny day here, so I decided to take some photos of my month old babies.

I took one baby outside and placed her on a little perch. I took 4 steps away from the baby and got ready to snap a photo. Out out the blue, a bird swoops down and snatches the baby off the perch right in front of me. I quickly grabbed the hose next to me (luckily the hose was set on the Jet setting) and blasted the bird right out of the air by the fence. The bird fell and dropped the baby in the swimming pool. I jumped into the water and grabbed the baby. It physically wasn't harmed but was half dead from drowning, gasping for air and it's tongue was limp and hanging out the side of it's mouth and she seemed dead.

I don't know if this even works for reptiles, but I pulled down it's lower jaw and lightly blew air into it's mouth, not hard at all (Mouth to mouth, I know crazy) I lightly pressed on it's side with my pinky and it spit out water. A few minutes pasts of the baby gasping for air. In about 5 minutes it physically was getting stronger and not limp and began climbing up a perch I had for it. Now an hour has past, the panther baby has it's healthy colors back and is full of energy and has even eaten several fruit flies. I really hope she is okay, and I must say this was a huge scare. My wife couldn't believe I was giving it mouth to mouth, but whatever it is alive now and not dead like I thought. What a horrible event to have happen, but what an amazing outcome me and this baby had. Thank goodness, I saved it. From now on I will be very carefull outside with my chameleons. Never has anything close to this happened but it only takes once. I am so terribly lucky worse didn't happen.

Wow quick reflexes man. Glad everything is ok with the baby. You need a scarecrow or something :p

you.....are.....my......super herp hero! i respect you more than anyyyyyy zoologist, vet, herpatoligist, breeder, keeper. i am now your #1 FAN! that is absolutely amazing! cpr and a chameleon, saved by a bird and saved from drowning, nursed back to health!? lol

I would of needed CPR myself if that had happened to me!!!!!!! ;)
I don't even have my guy yet but birds and cats lurking outside are one of my biggest fears!!!!

Woah! Your good with a hose huh?

I just got very lucky!!!! The bird grabbed the baby and kind of hovered in one place then landed on the fence. Right then I blasted it and it fell next to the pool and dropped the baby. All happening in a matter of seconds it seemed.

I was freaked out too, and very worried when I got her out of the water.

Lol, I think I was pure lucky, and because I didn't think and just reacted she was saved. I don't even know if cpr is possible on a chameleon, but she basically seemed dead so it was my only option. Once she spit out water, she was back in a matter of minutes.

Thanks, if that pesky bird wasn't scared of me, a scarecrow probably wouldn't work. I was thinking more like a large, fake snake or something.
Luckily, I was just using the water hose and hadn't turned it off yet.

WOW is right! That's an incredible story. I can't believe you saved her!

I can't either! The chameleon is so very lucky.

WOW! That's crazy! I'm glad it worked out well though. :D

Very crazy, I hope nothing like this happens again. From now on I am going to be extremely careful outside!

God was looking out for that little guy nice job:)

You certainly got that right! Everything seemed to go in slow motion when it happened. CRAZY!!!!!

Wow! So glad you saved her! I hope she's ok

So far so good. She seems as healthy as ever and is active and eating. I think she will do fine, but I will be watching her constantly.

Nice shooting fella! glad it worked out well in the end :D

Just call me Tex, LOL

I think you should keep her and name her lucky :D

You must have read my mind, that is exactly what I said earlier. After I saved her, I said "This has to be the luckiest chameleon alive. So I am keeping you and naming you Lucky."

You should put up a picture of her! I am sure we all want to see this lucky girl of yours.

Here is Lucky....the "LUCKIEST" chameleon alive! The bird didn't even harm her. The water almost drowned her but here she is. She is Alive and thriving and used up 1, maybe 2 lives.

Graphic photo of the dead birds hatchling.

Well, I was outside pruning bushes by the area the incedent happened. I suddenly had the same type of bird that got my baby cham, swoop at me and then a nest full of hatchling birds floated out of the bush I was pruning. My dogs swarmed in on the birds and my Doberman caught one in flight. I yelled at her, but it was over, the bird was dead. Here is a photo of a dead bird, Lucky was going to be fed to this dead bird today.

Not today sucka!!!!!! Baby chameleons are not on the menu!
