I had a huge scare this morning! It is a nice and sunny day here, so I decided to take some photos of my month old babies.
I took one baby outside and placed her on a little perch. I took 4 steps away from the baby and got ready to snap a photo. Out out the blue, a bird swoops down and snatches the baby off the perch right in front of me. I quickly grabbed the hose next to me (luckily the hose was set on the Jet setting) and blasted the bird right out of the air by the fence. The bird fell and dropped the baby in the swimming pool. I jumped into the water and grabbed the baby. It physically wasn't harmed but was half dead from drowning, gasping for air and it's tongue was limp and hanging out the side of it's mouth and she seemed dead.
I don't know if this even works for reptiles, but I pulled down it's lower jaw and lightly blew air into it's mouth, not hard at all (Mouth to mouth, I know crazy) I lightly pressed on it's side with my pinky and it spit out water. A few minutes pasts of the baby gasping for air. In about 5 minutes it physically was getting stronger and not limp and began climbing up a perch I had for it. Now an hour has past, the panther baby has it's healthy colors back and is full of energy and has even eaten several fruit flies. I really hope she is okay, and I must say this was a huge scare. My wife couldn't believe I was giving it mouth to mouth, but whatever it is alive now and not dead like I thought. What a horrible event to have happen, but what an amazing outcome me and this baby had. Thank goodness, I saved it. From now on I will be very carefull outside with my chameleons. Never has anything close to this happened but it only takes once. I am so terribly lucky worse didn't happen.
