Tongue dabbing

Hi folks, new to this with a 3 1/2 month old Panther that I've had for 2 days...

He occasionally dabs the bio-vine with his tongue as he walks along it. The bio-vine is dry when he does this. I had not read about this behaviour and wondered what he was up to. There are plenty of water droplets on the leaves around him and he doesn't seem thirsty.

Oh, and what an amazing creature! I can sit and watch his antics for a long time.

Mine usually do this when they are thirsty, or even for just no apparent reason. Nothing to worry about.

my panther does this as well, except he will taste numerous parts of his enclosure. i am pretty sure they don't have anything like a jackobsons gland in which they are testing there surroundings or something of the sort.

but , perhaps he is taking in information every time he tastes a spot. he knows how many times he's gone past a point , or what else has been there OR...i dunno something of that sort. maybe he is marking his territory...

My bearded dragon does this every now and then, haven't seen my panther do it..

I'm sure it's nothing to worry about. Welcome!

My panther used to do this often as well. I would notice he would do it a lot when I put him into a my females enclosure to breed. It seemed similar to a dog sniffing out an unfamliar scent...

Thanks for the great information and nice welcome. It's good to know that there is friendly place to go for advice.
