wounds in elbows and knees [Panther chameleon]

A couple of weeks ago i went on holidays, when I came back we saw this kind of wounds in the elbows and knees of the cham

any ideas what could be?


Lately i have realized that he does not like Locus as much as he used to, now a pack could last more than a week.
but is eating more mealworms instead
could it be dehydration? the misting system is its been working fine, but one of the plants die, then less water was available for him, now i have replanted the viviarium.

Yes, those look like burns and it appears your basking vine is very close toyour light. I would lower it down. Chameleons will sit under the light and burn themselves like that. Kinda equivalent to us getting a sunburn. You can put some polysporin on the burned areas, but Silver Sulfadiazine would be better. This you can get only by prescription though. Keep in mind, that chameleons heal slowly, so do not expect to see results overnight after applying medicine. It can take may weeks. Very nice cage you have there by the way and as far as the food, he is probably just tired of eating the same old thing everyday. They will do that also, where they switch up what they like to eat.

Thanks for the advise! , i thought it could be dehydrations or the crickets or locus picking on him.

I would agree that the wounds look like burns.
How's he doing now?

Cant figure out how he would be burning his knees and elbows without burning his back...unless he's hanging from the roof of the cage in a strange position....but I suppose anything is possible.

He seems fine, today i will start the treatment with the Sulfadiazine cream, i have put the vine 30cm lower.

Still do not understand why he does not like locus or crickets anymore, rarely touch them, but he goes mad on mealworms.

Another funny thing is that he prefers eat outside of his cage, the mealworms inside of his cage die of old age and the crickets even breed . but outside of the cage.., he always finish the whole dish of mealworms 8 or 10.

Any ideas or is a "normal" behavior?
