Would You Trust...

I think it depends on the chameleon, the amount of automation you have and how trustworthy you deem the person to be in general. 5 days is not very long.

An adult veiled or panther could easily withstand 5 days of even fairly bad treatment but a younger animal or one of the smaller breeds require more responsible care. If you have your lights on a timer and an automated mister, you reduce the responsibility to "just make sure everything is working, call me if something's not". An adult veiled or panther could go 5 days without being fed, but it's not that tricky to set up a couple of deli cups with crickets for easy feeding.

Honestly what my girlfriend and I do is write out a schedule some what and let them follow it and tell them not to do anything that isn't on the list. Give them the supplement info if they will need it those days and set it out like they are a moron lol sounds rough but it worked for us.

If you work with this person and train them they should be fine. My petsitter had never had a reptile and I worked with her and now three years later she knows more than some of the members on this forums. ;)

Lol. Can you loan her services out?? :D

LOL 'case they run away form the roaches? xD

But yeah I made a schedule and got a neighbor who wants her kid to have a cool experience.

I've left mine with non-reptile people that I trusted. My friend was terrified she would kill my first one, but she did just fine. I just made a very detailed schedule for her. It had each day with the amount of food and how often to mist. She over fed a little (she said it was just to be extra careful so he wouldnt starve!) but the chameleon probably enjoyed that a bit.

As long as you trust that they are a careful, responsible person, and you give them detailed instructions, I dont see why not.

Just remember, when you got your first cham you didn't have any prior experience either :D I'm lucky in that I have a roommate who understands reptiles and their needs, but I also write him out an EXTREMELY detailed schedule covering everything, and so far so good.

I'd agree with everything else that has been said, I'm grooming my neighbour's teen, who has an interest in reptiles but has never kept one.

With a teacher like you, I am not at all surprised.:)

I'm trusting mine to my best friend for 2 weeks, I asked her to house-sit (what I really meant was chameleon-sit lol) She wants to get her own veiled so it'll be good practice

I am leaving for Maui tomorrow for 7 days. Lucky for me, the breeder I bought it from (local) is willing to take care of my juvi panther in exchange for me working at his booth for a day at the upcoming reptile expo. Not a bad tradeoff :)
