WOOHOO!! 27 more eggs!

I just finished digging up 27 more eggs from Ouroboros, sired by Icefyre.

This time went even smoother than last.

I use a 28lb Scoop Away cat litter bucket. I cut a 4x4 hole in the lid. I put about 6 inches of damp play sand in it. When she starts to wander around I put it in her cage and run an artificial vine through the hole so she can get in and out.

She started digging in the small bowl of sand I keep in her cage yesterday. So I put the bucket in her cage last night and put her on the vine facing into the bucket.....She climbed right down and started digging until lights out. This morning she started again and by 6:00 PM she had the hole buried and was back in her cage eating and drinking.

I took the bucket out and unearthed the eggs. I ended up with 27.

Her last clutch of 21 was laid on 2/27/08. They all seem viable and have swelled nicely and remain unmoldy. They were also sired by Icefyre.

Now for the LONG wait. :(

I think it's neat to see the difference in the size of the eggs.

Thanks for looking,
Kevin

Kevin; you so want to incubate the new eggs in a different container! When the older clutch starts to hatch, it will trigger the newer clutch to hatch and those eggs will be significantly behind on developement and you will potentially lose them all.

Also, keep the lid on your egg containers at all times. Removing it to "have a quick look" or add eggs will cause drastic temperature and humidity fluctuations which in turn cause the egg shells to become rubbery and hard. At which point the babies may not be able to get out when it's time.

That's an awesome picture of "mom"! She looks pleased with herself. Albeit dirty.

Good luck with your eggs. It is neat to see how much they grow in a few months!
Cheers,

I hatched out two clutches in the same container and everyone of the hatched.
I opened the lid at least once a day.
Looks like your doing a great job to me!!:)

Thanks guys.

Trace,

I'll seperate them in a month or so. That's the only incubator I have and my house temps fluctuate greatly this time of year. It was built in 1921.

I have two thermometers in there with remote sensors so I can check temps without opening the container. That's the first time it's been open in 3 weeks. I can't believe I've been that patient. I brought them up into the livingroom to work with them because the temp was at 68 and that's were the incubator is now. So hopefully the temp difference won't be too big. The humidity would be the only issue and hopefully there wasn't much air movement to dry things out.

Oh ya......I just had to get a pic of her like that. As soon as I put the camera down I misted her pretty good to get her cleaned up and give her a drink. She drank and went right to the food container and ate a couple of crickets and a dubia! :D

Thanks again,
Kevin

It is amazing how much they can eat after not eating much at all right before laying. I fed mine 2x/day for 3 days and she pretty much got whatever she wanted. She is back to her self now after a week and a half.

She did good! So did you. Good luck on your clutch.
