Where in the world...

Well, I was born and raised in Hamburg/Germany. Hamburg is in the northern part of Germany, quite close to the Baltic Sea and Denmark. It is the second largest city of Germany. Curiosity drew me to the USA, and so I packed my suitcases, told my parents I would be back in about 9 months and left. That was almost 20 years ago. For the first five years I lived in the San Francisco Bay area and loved it. It was very much like home. During that time I met my husband at a blind date, got engaged, went back to Germany for several months and have lived in this country for good since 1991. We moved to Phoenix, Arizona a little over 14 years ago, job transfer. Arizona is probably one of the most beautiful places to visit. I love this state's diversity. We have beautiful lakes, mountain ranges, ski resorts, the Grand Canyon, Monument Valley, the Sonoran Desert etc. Arizona is one of those states where you can go skiing in the morning, drive south for two hours and relax by the pool in the afternoon. We also have some pretty neat wildlife. I could do without the rattle snakes though, (11 out of 18 species call the Phoenix metropolitan area home), and scorpions aren't my favorites either. It is pretty neat though to find an occasional harmless snake in the yard, garage and even in our family-room.
It gets very hot here. During our first summer the thermometer reached 123 F. That is quite unusual though. It's more common to get around 115F during the summer. Way too hot for me, and I miss the ocean.
Phoenix is within a good 5 hour drive from Las Vegas, Los Angeles, San Diego and about 4 hours from Mexico.
The attached pictures show Sedona, Flagstaff's ski resort "Snow Bowl", Lake Powell, Monument Valley, and my neighborhood in Phoenix.

I'm a Canadian, born in Manitoba, raised in the interior of British Columbia.
I'm living in Seattle as an American citizen since my Mom is a 60's frisco kid that married a Canadian bush pilot.

Seattle is can be a crazy place to live but I love the people and I love the culture. Home of Nirvana, Hendrix, Foo Fighters, and Alice in Chains. I used to go to church a couple blocks from Lane Staley's apartment and I remember the day he died. It's hard for me to realize that other people in the country don't know what a single shot 16oz is.

Extra hot americano with room for breakfast, 16oz restretto shot latte for lunch, and a medici for dinner. :D yum!

However my real home... the place where my wife and I grew up together as teenagers, fell in love, my little beach town on the lake.

It's 6 hours northeast of Vancouver.

ChamMan - what is a "po'boys"?

SoCaliSon - Definately plenty of good boarding opportunities in BC, though one has to go a few hours from where I live to get to a decent snow mountain.

Anyone heading to Vancouver Island let me know and I'll point you to the places to see, things to do!

I'll play along! :D
Born in Jakarta, Indonesia.

In 1999, I moved to US.
I think I'll let the pictures speak for itself:

My wife and I honeymooned in Ucluelet. So beautiful there.

So nice places illustrated with beautiful pictures!!!

I live in Budapest, the capital city of Hungary....the whole country is as big as a state in the USA :p

Its small, but if u have time its worth to visit. The city is crossed by the Danube river, make 2 parts of it: Buda and Pest. Buda is the older part, like an "old town". Lots of nice restaurants here, a lovely ZOO witch is getting more and more "modern" to keep the animals well. Also there is a wild animal park, where u can see a part of our local fauna.

Almost forget to mention the lake Balaton :) At the northern part there are mountains, so after a great walk in the nature u can swim in the lake for relax :)

I will fit some photos for the site soon.

(below thats a Muflon from the wild park)

Frans!!! That is another one that I have always dreamed of visiting... Indo!!! I worked at a resturaunt where 90% of the employees were from Indo. What a beautifull country and cuture. Those pics are gorgeous. I think I told you, but next time I see you I will have to try a little bit of my Indonesian... I used to know a fair amount years back, but I am afraid I only remember the casual greeting. "Apa kabar?" ... Baik!

I always wanted to go to Indo to Surf the Mentawai(sp?) Isalnds... I have freinds who have done boat trips there and say it is just incredible. I am always so fascinated by these island nations.

I must say... This forum is amazing. More and more I realize how the members of this site, new and old, are from every corner of the globe. The interenet is wonderfull. Here we have a community of people, without borders, who all share a common interest in this hobby. When I first got into this hobby I relied only on publications, and local hobbiest to compare notes with and discuss husbandry practices. This site is an invaluable resource, and I believe the central location for the sharing of Chameleon Knowledge worldwide. I have had discussions with keepers anywhere from the Great White North, to the States, into Europe, and some even down in the bahamas.

So I thought it would be a fun idea for a thread for people to share a little bit about where they are from. Whether it be Podunk, Arkansas or the Aussie outback... Share a little bit about yourself and where you call home. Where are your fav local spots to vacation? If we were in your neck of the woods, what would you recommend to do? And of course it is always awesome if you could Post Pics!!!

Thanks:)
~Joe

South Africa.
Johannesburg, I have loved chameleons all my life and will always love chameleons.
KwaZuluNatal is a nice place for vacation, its tropical, humid nice warm ocean etc. And also a hot spot for chameleons, flap necks and dwarfs.
A big pointer do not take a SA taxi!
Dont stop on the side of a street at very late hours.
Most the things like that but only realy for Joburg and some othe places around.
Places like Hermanus Western Cape is very safe, some places in KZN, and maybe some other places.

Good luck if you come to Johannesburg for vacation, rather go to Knysna thats a hot spot for tourists, stay at the Beacon hotel.

I thought it might be fun to post a few pictures of where I'm from originally, Hamburg/Germany.

Mentawai is pretty; but, if you like diving, I recommend "Bunaken."

Frans, I love the photos you posted. Especially the Buddhist temple! Gorgeous!
The temple is called "Borobudur Temple."

One of my most favorite place to go. Built in 9th century as one of the pilgrimage destination for buddhists in SE asia.
Here some more pics:
Borobudur3.jpg

The temple is surrounded by spiraling stairs that goes up to the top where the statue of Buddha resides. Seen from the top, the temple becomes the mandala symbol.

seen from the sides, when we climb the stairs, we can view the illustrations etched on the wall that tells the story of ramayana and Buddha's journey.
(Ramayana is Hindu; back then, our country is deep rooted in Buddhism and Hinduism before Islam empire took over).

Here is another one of my favorite temple (this one is Hindu temple).
called "Prambanan."

a po'boy is also called a poor boy. it originated as slave food. it was stale french bread with all sorts of leftovers. now it is a food long piece of semi stale french bread with any possible stuff in the middle. my fav is the fried oyster overstuffed po'boy. in essence it is a huge overstuffed sandwich made of french bread.
here are some pics off google images
