Where did he go?!

Tonight I was sitting on my computer chatting on the chameleon forums chat room and going through threads and posting, checking my email and such. I got up to use the restroom and on my way back thought 'wonder how chris is doin?'. Chris is my young Melleri that is being kept in a bare tub at night because crickets seem to enjoy the taste of his tail. So I flip on the light to check on him.............. hes not there?! I stop and think a second... where could he have gone?! His tub is on a shelf of my computer desk. So I figure like most chams he must have climbed up a cable to roost. I look around a bit and notice his head resting on my router... He is laying flat on my router right in the middle. I grab the camera and snapped some pics.

Ha! Funny, he actually made it to the top. I've learned over all these years that when a cham escapes, first check the power cords and computer cables. Far more often than not, I find them behind a desk or wall unit hanging on the cables. Thanks for sharing, oh, and I agree with what Juli said. Your router and modem almost look as dusty as mine.

1. Is he really not there or is he just hiding.
2. Check floor to be sure you didn't step on him.
3. Check anything vertical, start with cords, cables and chair or table legs.
4. Don't see him low, stand on something to get a birds eye view.

And yes, I will dust the router...

I had one chameleon actually escape the greenhouse. It was a baby wieder. I forgot to turn one of the cage latches and the other dropped because it is loose. You have to think like a chameleon. And when you lose a tiny chameleon, you have to think like a very small chameleon where the world around you is massive.

I pressed my head to the floor thinking she dropped. The brightness from beyond the greenhouse lead her to the gap beneath the greenhouse wall. I walked around to check and my stomach just turned thinking of the shrubs on the back of our property. But luckily she didn't want to cross the pathway and peagravel next to that to get to the shrubs. She was actually perched beneath the leaf of a Marsh Moneywort about 4 inches from the greenhouse wall. I was soooooo lucky to find her!!!

Ok, I'll play the devil's advocate. Before I get too much further, I realize this thread was meant as a funny one and one that promotes the 'personalities' perhaps of our individual chameleons. However Kevin, this is not the first time you've posted (along with pics!) that your melleri have escaped their free-range and/or temporary enclosures. Perhaps it's time to reassess those cages because if the specimens themselves aren't comfortable in them, then they are not happy, healthy animals. I'd hate to see somebody new to the hobby see pics like these and assume that this is "normal" behaviour for chameleons and thus acceptable; and more importantly, I'd rather not see an emergency thread started by you because you accidentally stepped on one of them at 5am.
