When did you get an automatic mister?

So im getting back into the chameleon scene slowely but surely and I know when im getting myself an auto system (once i get 3 or more) but i want to know when every else gets theirs.

i got mine about 2.5 months ago after keeping chameleons my first year. works awsome. and even with just two chameleons, it deffinately makes life so much easier. even with one chameleon it could do you wonders.

I just ordered the Mist King Starter Kit a couple days ago and I'm expecting it to arrive within a week.

I tried the Zoo Med Habba Mist despite the poor reviews and found the reviews were very accurate; it just didn't work well. I only tried it because I had a 20% off coupon and knew I could take it back to PetCo if it didn't work for Rico so it was worth a shot. In the end, it just provide any mist. It either squirted water or, if you closed the valve too tight, it dripped and there was no in-between no matter how much I fiddled with it. It didn't take me long to realize I wasn't going to keep it.

It's too bad really because Zoo Med is a reputable company with a lot of really great products so it seems to me they should be able to take the Habba Mist product, which is great conceptually in my opinion, (especially if you only have one cage to mist,) and improve upon it. Two things it could use:

1. Better timer system to allow it to be turned off overnight and manage on times to seconds without the need for an additional timer .

2. Definitely a better pump and/or misting nozzle combination.

I think having an automatic system is almost an essential if for nothing more than to provide your chameleons with a consistent environment and keep them healthy. I'm confident in my Mist King purchase even though I haven't recevied it yet because there's so much great feedback out there from members of this forum and on the Mist King website's testimonials.

Good luck!

at the beginning of the year i was keeping 4 chams and doing everything by hand and i almost enjoyed it. I liked how the chams new when they saw me they were getting something, weather it be water, food, or just a little interaction and i think it helped "tame" them. My veiled was more handleable than most ball pythons Ive ever met. Even with an auto msiter i still plan on doing one hand misting a day in the morning to kinda tell them goodmorning and interatct with them. That ontop of feeding and spot cleaning with the auto misters going on 2 more times that day and maybe a 3rd (depending on if i feel like doing night mistings by hand or not also.

I was just wondering for the people that are keeping LOTS (see 6+ or so) when they thought the auto mister became a necessity as opposed to a helping hand

We ordered ours when we were going away on vacation and didn't want our family worrying about misting them a few times a day (mostly because they wouldn't have been around enough to do it!). We had 4 chameleons when we got them (still do!) but I think even if we just had one chameleon, we still would have gotten it.

I got a mistking system about 4 months after getting my first and only cham when I realized that I wanted to go away for a weekend without having to get somebody to come over and mist for me or for all day when Im at work. Its all about convienience and worth every penny.

I got my mist king right after I got my first mellers chameleon last year and quickly realized how tired my arms got spraying the amount of water they actually needed all day.

That and when the Habba Mist I had turned on for the first time and scared the heck out of the chameleons. That thing was louuuud.

I bought my mist king after 1 month of having my only cham. I work the night shift so I need everything automated as I sleep most of the day.

I was able to afford my mistking about 7 months after getting my first cham, and by them I had 3 chameleons. But I would have happily gotten it for my first chameleon if I'd known how fantastic it is. It felt stupid to pay $100+ for something that squirts water, but booooy, was I wrong.

I purchased mine prior to ever purchasing the animal. I know myself well enough to know I would get tired and be too lazy to mist 3-4x a day, and in the end the animal would be the one that suffered. I am very glad I did as not only are both of my chams very well hydrated but when I leave town it is a lot easier just to tell my room mate to dump a half dozen crickets in their cage each day.
