Waterproofing wood cabinet

I have a cabinet that needs waterproofing. Going out to home depot tomorrow for some, was just wondering if you guys had any suggestions for what to use. Wasn't sure if there'd be any safety issues with certain types of sealant? I drilled a hole through the top and plan to have a funnel drain my water down to a tub underneath.

Some clear coat should work fine. Just apply it and maybe sand it well so there is no flakes and keep an eye on it.

You will want to use a heavy duty water-based sealer such as Polyurethane. Get a high gloss tough type and make sure its well cured before getting it near moisture. Oil-based products can leach chemicals into the cage over time.

i used the coat they use on boats to seal the woods.
another thing that will work is epoxy but it's a little harder to apply and you should only use it in a well ventilated area.

Great thanks! I grabbed some polyurethane after seeing it recommended for saltwater tanks as well as on here. Figured i'd just cover areas prone to water, it's a temporary cabinet and a bit beat up so as long as it holds up i'm not too worried. I just don't want any chemicals or mold harming the cham.
