I just bought a veiled chameleon this saturday(not sure if it's a boy or girl) and I'm not sure how to give it water. I have tried spraying the leaves but he doesn't seem to drink the water. I have plastic plants, so could that have something to do with it? I'd appreciate any information. Thanks

A dripping system. Plastic plants hmm..maybe but get some real ones like pothos,ficus..etc Give pictures if you want it sexed..back feet

Chams can be shy drinkers and feeders, you might not see it drink for a while.
The best bet would be to give it as much opportunity to drink as possible. Mist the enclosure down covering all the leaves 2 or 3 times a day and give it some privacy, just in case it doesnt want to be watched.
Not all chams like it but with a very low power on your mist bottle, spray (dont shoot) the cham directly on the face/mouth area. This gets my girl in the mood for a drink. Make sure you use warm water, dont want to give your animal a shock! This will also give your cham the opportunity to clean its eyes

Until you get a dripper, try misting heavily for a few minutes at least, make sure all the leaves get dripping wet. Alot of cham keepers rarely ever see their cham drink (like myself) but I know she is by the colour of her urates. Keep an eye on her urates ( the white stuff of chams poop). If he/she is getting sufficient water the urate will be white but if she is getting dehydrated the urate will be more yellow and its eyes may start sinking in. also if you wanna figure out if you have a male or female look at your chams back legs by its foot. If there is a bump at the base it is a male, no bump it is a female. Its always easier to name your cham if you know the sex lol. good luck

How long do you mist him for? Sometimes these guys need a couple minutes to get their drinking reflexes going.
