Hi! Well done on catching it and taking him in to the vets! Can you just move the bulb closer to the basking spot? If not it's ok to use a higher wattage bulb as long as there's no risk of a burn.
My girl's just gotten over a mild RI, we had a two week course of oral baytril and I injected it into a locust every day for her. I also bumped the heat up about 5 degrees f. and bumped the heater in the room up to warm the ambient temps at night. Another thing that I did to help her was put her in a steamy bathroom (with the shower running but not with her in the shower) for an hour every second day to help clear any mucus that was bothering her. This worked a treat for us, even though my girl is a grumpy one that doesbn't like being handled much!
Do you have any idea what could have caused his infection? It would be a good idea to figure out what it was and see if it's anything you can change to stop it happening again. In our case, I'm pretty sure that my girls infection was caused by a weakened immune system, she had gular edema and so we stopped her d3 and multivit for 6 weeks to combat it and just after that is when the infection started.
Hope this helps and I hope your little guy makes a speedy recovery!
