Mudshark,
Your lizard isnt 'terminal' by any means. Everyone here wants all chameleons to live forever going by the intensity of replys.

That said, given 25 years plus of reptile experience, I can say three things with confidence.
1. Pinkies are great for building up sick/convalescing animals, or pre/post pregnancy, but otherwise not exactly a healthy food choice being mostly fat & protein. On occasion they wont hurt if fed very sparingly.
2. Chams generally have skinny limbs, but your lizards legs do look a little on the skinny side. Just a tad more meat on him wont hurt.
3. As you probly know, bubbles and gaping are such a common indicator of Respiratory issues, that its not unreasonable as such, for folk to imagine your lizard may be developing one. From all accounts chameleons can 'crash' suddenly and without excessive symtoms, so advice to get a second opinion on that is fair.
None of this in any way indicates anythng negative about you or your care of your lizard, though it may feel that way, Dont take it personally, especially if you read the number of 'sick cham, cham died' type threads regularly posted here.
If your 38 I reckon you had an idea what to expect on an internet forum eh? Seen one, seen em all! Nothing new there.
Do the best you can with it, 'feel' your way, as I did, you'll be fine. Best wishes, JJ
Happy new year
