too much uvb?

Kamo my 3 month old Veiled seems to be spending most of the day basking under the uv light. It is a reptisun T5 5.0 HO 22 inch with his basking 8 inches below. I am not running a heat lamp as the upper part of enclosure runs at 77 during the day. I wondering if he coukd be getting to much uvb?

Do you have a solar meter 6.5? It’s pricey but 100% worth it to get so you can make positive that he is getting the UVB he needs. Surprisingly no name brand pet store near me had any so I had to order mine on Amazon. Super cute little guy you got there.

I do not have a solar meter had to look it up to see what it was. My reptisun light came with a uv sensor card that turns purple when i put it under the light

I think you can reference this picture since the T5 5.0 and the 6% are very similar, you can raise it off the top about 6 inches if his basking branch is about the same distance from the screen. If it is directly on the screen then you would want your basking branch even lower due to the uvb coming in at a higher rate. I personally have the Arcadia 6% and I have my uvb raised 4 inches above the screen and about 8 inches to his basking branch.

yes i have the uvb directly on top of screen where it is 8 inches above his basking area

You are reading that chart incorrectly.... For the 6% it is sitting on the cage top. with branch being 8 inches down from the screen. and this is correct for this combo of fixture, screen, UVB strength. Gives an approximate 3uvi

For a 12% bulb or a 10.0 bulb you would raise the fixture 6 inches off the top and then basking branch would be 8 inches down. and this is correct for this combo of fixture, screen, UVB strength. Gives an approximate 3uvi

Be very cautious sharing parts of images. It is always better to share the link so there is material and the entire picture can be seen. Link that has this chart you partially screen shot. https://chameleonacademy.com/chameleon-cage-set-up-replicating-the-sun/

NOTE Where you are saying that you have yours... You now have your cham too far away. with a baby if you raise a fixture with either a 5.0 or 6% bulb 4 inches up you would then have the branch sitting 4-5 inches from the screen below it. This gives a total distance of 8-9 inches. which puts baby in the right UVI of approximately 3 UVI. Where you now have yours at a total distance of 12 inches your chameleon is not getting high enough UVI Levels.

No, it is getting the correct UVI levels, with a T5HO single bulb fixture sitting on top of a standard screen cage with a 5.0 bulb you want a measured 8-9 inches to the basking branch to put the chameleon in a 3 UVI. Which is where they should be.

Baby is basking all the time because that is the warmest part of the cage as you have not added a low wattage basking spot.

The cards only tell you if there is even a fraction of UVB lighting. They do not tell you if there is enough. Do not count on them.

This is correct.
