Is my UVB or basking light too close?

Make sure your bulbs are regular incandescent bulbs. The ones that are flat bottomed and say basking or focused heat are more intense then a round based bulb.
Help today I bought an Arcadia golden sun 50w and it’s still too hot. It’s 87 degrees. I just moved Spyro’s enclosure more away from the window. Here’s to box.

I just turned off his basking light and his thermometer is reading this. It feels really hot in our house, I think our ac might be broken. Maybe that’s why it’s so hot on his thermometer when it’s on.

I'm not totally sure about that light, I've not used it before. I just use a normal 40w incondesent house light bulb. Don't use LED, it doesn't produce the heat.

If the room your cham is in has an ambient temperature of anything over 77f, you don't want to use a basking light at all. I think some people get UVB basking and heat basking confused. The heat should only be used if your ambient (room) temperature falls below 77. For example, in the winter I would use my heat lamp for 12hr a day, along with the UVB. However in the summer, I use the heat lamp ONLY if the ambient temperature falls below 77f. Right now I have the heat turn on at 7am, and then off by noon. The Cham will sit under the UVB light without a heat light on.

Some people use special plugs that are also controlled by the heat like this.

If your cage is a large reptibreeze a really easy way to hang the basking area to 8", is that your top door knob is exactly 8". Just try and line the branches up with the knob. 🙂

So that is not a basic round bottom bulb... When they are flat like that they shoot the heat down in a specific path. When they are round like this one an exo terra bulb, they heat an area without making it extremely hot. Then the fixture helps direct the heat down not the bulb producing a focused heat beam. Unless you lift that bulb in that fixture up off the top of the cage a few inches it is going to produce temps that are too strong for a cham.

How hot does that bulb get if I have it 8-9 inches away?

Different things are going to impact the heat output. The diameter of your fixture, if it is a deep dome fixture, wattage, type of bulb, and exact distance to branch. I can not give you an exact number because your set up and what you are using may not be exactly how I had mine set up. However I used these bulbs the entire time I had chams. Never had any issue. Only thing to note is if you have a power surge or outage sometimes the filament on these bulbs will fail so I always had a backup bulb on hand.

Hey guys, so I’m going to buy another heat bulb today. Just wanna know, is Flukers 60w incandescent Basking Spotlight bulb good? Or should I get Exo Terra daylight heat bulb 60w? Also going to look at petco

The Flukers is a focused heat bulb with a flat bottom. It can put out more heat because of this. I recommend the exo terra Daytime heat bulb as it will heat the area without it being a hotter beam like a focused heat bulb.

Okay, I’m just worried about it also being too hot lol. As you might know I live in Florida and since it’s summer it feels around 117 degrees everyday so yeah lol.

Right but you have air conditioning in the house correct? You want your ambient temps at low 70's for daytime. It will get warmer the higher you go in the cage. Then the warmest spot would be under the basking area. 80-85max depending on species and age.

If your ambient temps are running too hot say at 80 you would not run a basking fixture at all. As there is no way for them to get out of the heat.
