Is my UVB or basking light too close?

Make sure your bulbs are regular incandescent bulbs. The ones that are flat bottomed and say basking or focused heat are more intense then a round based bulb.
Help today I bought an Arcadia golden sun 50w and it’s still too hot. It’s 87 degrees. I just moved Spyro’s enclosure more away from the window. Here’s to box.

I just turned off his basking light and his thermometer is reading this. It feels really hot in our house, I think our ac might be broken. Maybe that’s why it’s so hot on his thermometer when it’s on.

I'm not totally sure about that light, I've not used it before. I just use a normal 40w incondesent house light bulb. Don't use LED, it doesn't produce the heat.

If the room your cham is in has an ambient temperature of anything over 77f, you don't want to use a basking light at all. I think some people get UVB basking and heat basking confused. The heat should only be used if your ambient (room) temperature falls below 77. For example, in the winter I would use my heat lamp for 12hr a day, along with the UVB. However in the summer, I use the heat lamp ONLY if the ambient temperature falls below 77f. Right now I have the heat turn on at 7am, and then off by noon. The Cham will sit under the UVB light without a heat light on.

Some people use special plugs that are also controlled by the heat like this.

If your cage is a large reptibreeze a really easy way to hang the basking area to 8", is that your top door knob is exactly 8". Just try and line the branches up with the knob. 🙂
