Tips And Tricks

Does anyone have any tips and tricks for owning a panther chameleon or a veiled chameleon? I might be getting one of those breeds after quarantine is over.

Follow the husbandry that is given by people on this forum...supplements, proper lighting, temperatures, methods of watering, feeding/gutloading, etc.
Most people say get a male because you don't have to worry about egglaying/reproductive issues.
Panthers usually have a bit better disposition than veileds.

Hopefully others will chime in.

Ok! Thank you!

For veiled remember that they are omnivorous! They will nibble on any plants you put them with nice and tasty plants.
I once heard that when it comes to temperament veiled are extreme and panthers are more well balanced. Veiled will be either VERY hostile, VERY friendly, or VERY shy. (That's what I heard, anyway!)

If your chameleon ever seems frustrated DON'T bother it. dark colors = NO MEANS NO
Also I heard crickets are stinky so don't breed those for your chameleons. Maybe just buy them.

Hmm... These are exactly the opposite of what I've heard in videos on YT. I've always heard & read that veiled are more friendly, and panthers more shy & standoffish, or aggressive.

I hope others DO chime in on this question, either to clear up any misconceptions or validate that the little buggers are all individuals.

I heard that Panthers were more friendly than Veiled. And that female panthers are the same as veiled. ?

Nah. There are some AGGRESSIVE veilds on the forums. All are individual for sure but I think there is a conception that veilds can have more attitude.

When deciding between a veiled or panther cham the question I always ask people is “Which do you think looks cooler?” - Their care is similar, both are easy enough to get your hands on with plenty of info about both species, and it’s a total gamble on what kind of temperament your cham will have. I have a male panther that will try to bite anyone who isn’t me. But I have a friend who has a male panther who is puppy dog tame. Like I said in the other thread, go into owning a cham as if they will want nothing to do with you because there is a good chance they won’t. If cost is a deciding factor (veileds are significantly cheaper) then maybe a chameleon isn’t the right pet for you. Which is why I think it really just comes down to which cham you find yourself looking at more pictures of and thinking “wow”. Just my two cents.
