Update - back from the vet

Vet's visit went better than I hoped. We did get to see the reptile vet after all who was very knowledgeable. He said that maybe a lack of D3 has something to do with how she is. Of course, with reptiles it's very hard to diagnose. He gave her 0.05ml of Oxytocin just in case she is retaining an egg or something is going wrong with the next clutch. He injected into her back leg and she got a huge bruise straight away! It's gone now though. As he injected her she turned her head, but still she was sweet and didn't gape, hiss or try to bite.

However, he was doubtful that it could be a retained egg as it's been nearly a month since she laid and the fact that she has been eating and been fine up till now. I will be giving vits WITH D3 again from now on (I changed due to advice from the people I got her from, plus what I've read on here). I am also wondering whether it was an 'off' feeder. I guess through the winter was not a good time to switch to a without D3 vit either. Just hope it's not too late. I only switched in January and gave it once per fortnight.

He suggested that if there's no improvement in a couple of days to go back and have xrays and blood work done. He also thought that she's not too bad as she's still very bright green.

I've increased her basking temp and will keep offering her water and food throughout the day. Fingers crossed that she'll be ok.

Hi Tiff,

That's good news that she is looking less sunken today and still bright green. I do hope she gets better. When it comes to feeding we have now cut Hugo down to 6 crickets/locusts every other day, and he seems fine for it. We also will use Nutrobal twice week and Calcium dust once week (our breeder said to use Nutrobal at every feeding). I am not advising here (before anyone jumps on me), i am just sayinghow we are doing it for Hugo. We had to take him to the vets yesterday (tiniest amount of blood in his poo) and she said he looked healthy and not oversupplemented, so I am wondering if there is less d3/vits in that than there is in the US supplements? May be a thought. Glad she has perked up a bit though, we were all very worried last night.

Glad to hear everything went ok at the vets and that she is a little brighter 2day:),keep us posted

Glad to hear that you got to see the reptile vet and that Lily is brighter this morning. I will keep praying for her improvement. Jann

Thanks for all the good wishes for Lily. She's still the same. Although she is drinking a good few mouth fulls every time I offer her water, which is very frequently (every 10 mins or so). Luckily I don't have to work today so I can keep an eye on her and get her to drink plenty. Still not eaten anything though. I really don't want to lose her - she's very special!

Tiff I am so happy to here that the vet found very little of concern!! I just knew Lily would be fine, and she will be comlpetely fine. We are all here for you!! Laurie:)

from my experience with jack, more water the better, higher temps the better. keep misting and offering water from a syringe ( jack used to love this, as i've read lily does too)

so she's been without D3 since january......and how often has she been getting sunlight daily since then? was she on D3 for her whole life prior to this break in Jan? When is she due to lay her eggs next?

I knew it wasnt good with Jack when he started just wanting out of his cage, and laying on my hand :( he was always a wanderer, all over the place all the time. you know your cham, and her personality. something strange to you may not be strange to others. heartbreaking to see them like this, have her legs been ok? grip? shaky?

Just looked back over Lily's records and I switched to the Reptivite without D3 in February. Prior to this she had Nutrabol (contains D3) every fortnight since I got her last May. I understand that she had all proper supplements from hatching until I bought her at 6 months. She hasn't been outside in the sun since late last summer (apart from about 20 mins on Sunday), but her UV lighting has been changed every 6 months and is due again now. I thought that they used the UV lighting for the calcium/D3 processes. She still moves around ok and her grip is still quite strong - no shaking at all and she hasn't lost her grip or fallen either. She laid her last clutch on Easter Sunday (12th April). She's not due another clutch yet. I know the signs she shows when she's starting a clutch - usually occuring 3-4 weeks before she lays.

So far so good. Well done for taking Lily to see a specialist reptile vet. It sounds like you are doing all you can. Fingers crossed for the little love.

:D I'm so glad to hear things have been ok today and definately glad to read there has been no turns for the worst!

How was she this evening?

I know i havent been here long but i am sending all my thoughts to both you and Lily

Thanks Gary, she's about the same. Eyes still sunken, but at least she's still bright green - lime green almost at times - I reckon she could glow in the dark! She's also been drinking today, but not interested in food. She's now roosting - she went to sleep hugging the stem of her umbrella plant.

Awww, i so have my fingers and toes crossed for you girls. Im hoping its just a dodgy feeder. Did you check them out/get a fresh batch?

*my dads little one has chosen to sleep on the umbrella for its first night*

Lily Update (Day 3)

Thanks for asking Jann! Sadly, she's still the same, although her eyes didn't look quite so sunk in first thing this morning. She is still drinking - I offer her water very frequently and she drinks every time, and she is still bright green. Her casque and the tops of her arms are shedding so I'm hoping that this is a good sign too. When I came home from work she was sat at the front and wanted to come out, so I'm hoping that's a good sign as well. She's been with me for a whole year today.:)

I want to say that I hope Lily pulls through. You have been so kind to everyone here. She's got a good mum.

And on a slightly humorous thought.. I picture your threads with a British accent..and yet you used "reckon" in this one which threw me into a southern drawl as I read it.. Made me giggle.:)
