The very reason you Never leave them outside unattended!!!

I was out with Stanley and Krayola this morning, it was very pleasant Cham temps. I had Krayola in the outdoor cage and Stanley on my shoulder. I let Stanley climb up to a hanging basket on the side of the house. As I tried to take his picture I couldn't figure out what he was looking at so intently, past me, I couldn't get his attention

I looked over my right shoulder and there not 60 feet away say a hawk!!!!! Scared the crap out of me!!!!!
I needed the jaws of life to pry Stanley from his perch but got it done!!! The hawk has glow away and Stanley is sitting on my shoulder,,, not going anywhere!!!!
Here are a few shots of the hawk, not very good but enough to scare us Cham keepers to the core!!!!!

You get the gist!!!!!!

Oh wow!!! At least you didn't have anything bad happen today!! I'm so glad you saw the hawk before he got one of your guys! *whew*

Wow! It's amazing how fast predatory birds will locate our chams outside. I've had similar experiences in Ohio and I live in the city.

Wow, that must have been scary! We have hawks also and i am always wary especially when we have new dachshund puppies which weigh around 1-2 pounds when we first take them outside for exercise. Glad you were able to rescue your chameleon. Ruth

yeah,,, me also!!! ive learned to pay attention to their body language/reactions!!! they are much more attentive to the surroundings that we are. as soon as i saw him freeze up and not react to me.. i knew something was up!!!

i live in a semi rural area, not to far from the city.. predators are still around!!!!!

Ruth, my guys were completely safe but it still was a fright to look over my shoulder and see a hawk right there!!!! my aunt has chiwawa puppies and is always on the outlook when they are outside!!! ;)

I love all animals. (Except for the ones that try to eat Chams!)

me too!!!! i am an animal advocate,, just dont eat my babies!!!!!! ;)

We have hawks, owls, and coyotes where I live. I had my clients tell me that their puppies were taken by a coyote right in front of them while playing in the front yard . I NEVER leave my smaller pets alone outside. My 70lb dog can fend for herself though :)

Oh Lisa, that is so scary. I am so thankful that nothing happen to either of your boys.

Jann I'm not sure who was more scared, Stanley or me!! Once I got him priedoff of that stick and back on my shoulder he and I both relaxed a bit! Krayola was in the cage and I don't think he saw it.

So true, our little ones rely on us to watch over them! They are so defenseless!

Wow, that would surely freak me out! Glad you're guys were okay! This reminds me of the episode of AFV (America's Funniest Home Video's) where a kid is showing off his hamster and he's got it on the top of the cage...and along comes this HUGE owl and scoops him up in his claws and flies off. I would be absolutely devastated if anything like that happened to my chams!

I had a similar hamster experience as a child. I had mine out letting it crawl around in the grass. From out of nowhere came this cat, grabbed my little hamster and ran off! I still remember it squealing as it was carried off!! It was horrifying... RIP Shadow... :(

OH NO! Oh, I am so sorry to hear that Lisa! I would be so traumatized, and obviously you still are as well! So sad for your hamster!

Ugh, what a horrible thing to broadcast, especially on a show that is supposed to be about humorous events! :(

That was close I'm glad your champs are okay. My baby Cham loves to go outside. I'm always close to him never leaves my sight. If I go in for a drink I always take him I do not trust n e thing.

I know...it is SO shocking to see...but my husband thinks its classic and laughs hysterically everytime he see's that episode! (he obviously doesn't have an affection for small creatures like we do!)

I think that some people just see the action, while other people (like us) think about how that small creature must feel. I suppose it just depends on your mindset, especially because not everyone really thinks about small animals having thoughts, feelings, emotions, etc.

Thanks ChameleonMom, it's odd what memories stay with you as you age. I had a severe dislike for cats for years but I came to realize it was just it's natural instinct to snatch up my hamster.... Maybe that's why I'm o overly cautious with my animals now....
