Yesterday I set up the open enclosure (just a fake plant outside of his enclosure) and set a stick for him to walk to the fake plant. He walked there himself, ate a cricket I held for him, form the plant, and seemed to enjoy it there. I decided that I'd take him outside tomorrow for the first time. And so I did.
I opened his enclosure door and he climbed out, on top of the ceiling. I was afraid he'd burn himself, so I turned the light off. Apparently doing this burns out the bulb (???) so he was without his basking spot. I decided this was definitely a good time to take him out since the weather was nice. I lured him on my hand with a cricket, set him on the fake plant then took him outside. He ate a cricket while outside too. I noticed him flattening his body and tilting on his side so he could warm up, and I am sure he enjoyed the natural UVB. This whole time the rabbit (Thumper) was running around, pawing me trying to get my attention. Interestingly, he was not phased by the rabbit. At one point, Tricky (my jackson chameleon, 5 months old btw) was particularly intrigued by a bush nearby. He decided that is how he would escape. He couldn't reach it from the leaf, so I held out my hand in front of him. He hesitated at first, but then walked right on it. This was the first time EVER (other when I first got him out of his box) that he walked onto my hand, without luring him onto it. Although I guess I was indirectly luring him with the bush he wanted on. I couldn't let him there though.
Once on my hand, I put him back on the fake plant. Then he tried to get to the bush, on my hand, on the fake plant and it went in a circle lol. At some points he would just sit on my hand or arm and bask, but it was a very nice moment for me, because he wasn't the least bit scared of my hand anymore, and was totally fine, even when he was just a few inches from my face. It was awesome!
Also I'm getting him a new basking bulb today. It is already just an hour and a half or so away from when he starts climbing down to relax and eventually fall asleep anyway, so I probably won't need it until tomorrow. Still getting one so I can put it in for now though.
It's nice, Tricky is warming up to me, more and more every day.
