I got my handsome boy yet another girlfriend. She's big and beautiful! She is huge compared to his other girlfriend and is almost as big as him, which isn't saying much... :) she doesn't have a name yet, but I want to keep the name in the ancient Greek mythology area. Hyperion is my male, his current gravid girl is Eris, his future girlfriend is Nyx, and this is his new girl.

She previously had a case of mouthrot before I got her, so don't mind her lip. :). I showed her to him because she was a pretty pink, but I guess she wasn't having any of it! Hyperion immediately produced a sperm plug after seeing her For the first time (coincidence?)

Quick phone shot as she was not happy at all!

She doesn't seem real motherly or bold... :) She's timid but tries to bluff. If I put my hand towards her she puffs up, but as it gets closer she starts running. :) Hera just doesn't quite fit, though I do like the name. I'll have to see if I get one that it fits with.

Hesperia (one of the Hesperides, "Nymphs of the Evening"?) - it sounds pretty and seems to fit with Hyperion... Whatever you choose to name her, she's beautiful!

ok....how about "Eos" or "Theia" and maybe "Dione".....:D..whatever u choose, she is one pretty lady;)

I'm liking hesperia.

Oh, they aren't going to be bred right away, plus I'm splitting eggs with my boyfriend and possibly another friend. Eric at chameleons101 lives near by and said he would like a few of the offspring as well. I also have a pet store (that is rather chameleon friendly!) that would take a baby or two. His third girl is still only 4.5 months old, and she's a cross so it might not even happen. We want to see how many eggs Eris lays first. She is very petite so we aren't expecting too many, but you never know! I personally think she's going to lay about 15-18 eggs. :)

Wow! Quite a project you have going!...but why not mating with the cross?

I'm not sure if I want to take on the hassle. If I do, I think I will only keep a few eggs and hope one is male so I can see the outcome. I don't want to end up with a huge clutch of babies that won't sell! I have room for quite a few, but not 25+ when they need their own cages and I don't really want to have to cull any. Maybe if they ended up with amazing colors and many people showed interest, I'd go for a second clutch.

You will always find buyers in this forum alone!...

Maybe... Maybe not. I don't think I could get many who want females. Preparing for the more unfortunate aspects, the whole clutch would be female and there would be 50 at the most, plus the retained clutch. If I don't think I can do it with the 'worst' in mind, I won't do it. I don't want to compromise several chameleons' quality of life because I thought maybe if I was lucky I could do it. That's why I would only keep a few eggs. A reasonable number that I would be able to house if I couldn't find homes for them. I suppose if people really wanted them that bad, they could put down a deposit on an egg? Too much thinking about the future and all these 'what if's! I'll cross that path when I come to it.

Is not there a way to manipulate the sex gender by tweaking the temperatures on the eggs in their first few months of development? I have read that it is possible on geckos, so could it be done on chameleons as well?
