We humans are strange in the patterns we make. It’s always happened that new animals come into my life in the spring and usually around May. Perhaps that’s just for cats and dogs. My chameleons seem to come into my life in the autumn around this time of year.
Six years ago yesterday, on a day of sadness/weakness I entered a Petco for turtle supplies and walked out with Stella…my beautiful and fierce green Goddess. This little lady is full of personality and not a day has passed that I haven’t been in awe of, in love with and totally owned by her.
This is the pic she gives me though for her gotcha day.
Here she is not long after getting her.
Not a recent pic, but a nice one.
2023 was a truly horrific year (going to leave it at at that) but then also a truly wonderful year thanks to the love of a gorgeous friend, a random kid and patience.
First came Bart, who was a gift from @Beman and came from member @Camiezone (for her babies of that time https://www.chameleonforums.com/threads/camiezone-babies-from-homer-and-big-girl.190956/). Bart was a sweet and handsome baby and has grown into a sweet and handsome adult, also full of personality. He is just a tad shy about coming out at times, until he sees my eyes. Then he’s quickly on my arm and getting ready to shoot his tongue at my eyeballs to eat them. He’s very calm and curious if he happens to see Mango and doesn’t fire up…just stares. My phone camera is another story though and he actually lunged to bite it while I was trying to get new pics of him. I tried, but couldn’t get any which show just how bright and gorgeous his colors are.
Baby Bart
Older pic which still doesn’t do his colors justice.
When I was picking Bart up from the FedEx hub, the clerk noted the contents of the box and asked a silly question, “Do you like chameleons?” Her son had one which was found locally and he decided he didn’t want to spend $$ on an animal he couldn’t handle. So, the next day I picked up Lucky. Poor guy was in rough shape and got his name for being fortunate enough to find his way to me. He’s very shy and doesn’t want to be held at all, ever. He’s very much a sweetheart though and thru time, respect and patience has learned that I can be trusted. I’ve no idea of his age, but I suspect he may be an older guy. While I can’t give him back his freedom, I do my best to give him a good life and lots of the yummy (silk, horn, super) worms that he loves.
Poor guy was emaciated, dehydrated and in rough condition from parasites. I wasn’t sure he’d survive.
He doesn’t often show me his colors, but he is a handsome fella.
Long before getting Bart was an idea, I had responded to someone looking to rehome their chameleon. For the longest time, it was up in the air and didn’t look like it would happen. In the meantime, along came Bart and Lucky and a couple of weeks later, I learned I’d be receiving Mango, whose original name was ‘Panther’. He came to me as a fully adult sweet beauty. It took him a bit of time to adjust, but once he did…wow! This fella wants to come out onto my hand/arm every single day. If I stop in front of his door, he comes running over and waving his arms to climb out. I haven’t yet figured out if he has a motive. He just seems to be content to sit on my arm for a few minutes. He does fire up as soon as he catches a glimpse of Bart and even if he sees me in front of Bart’s enclosure (they are side by side with a visual barrier).
His looks haven’t changed much so here’s just some recent pics of him.
