so im leaning more toward a panther chameleon as compared to a jackson because of the great colors they can be in. so my next question is how does one decide to choose male or female?

Females are browns in color for the most part for panthers and can have egg binding problems as well as shorter lifespan. Males are colorful and don't lay eggs LOL

For a first time owner I usually suggest male, as they are easier in terms of no egg laying.

If you have previous chameleon experience, its entirely preference.

Some might say Females have smaller space requirements (though I give mine just as much space as a male and they do use it).

Some might say females are less colourful, but I would say they just have different colours than males. I think the subtle browns, oranges, pinks, and blacks with hints of blue etc in a female panther are very attractive. But if you want in-your-face BLUE or GREEN or RED and BLUE, go for a male.

If you are after GREAT color, than go for a male. IMO the females, by comparison, really are quite bland.

What ever you get, do tons of research and have your cage and lights and everything sety up BEFORE you buy your chameleon.
